hi guys, gonna be vmodding my 9800 soon so it needs better cooling, i have a few share cpu hsf's laying around and am looking to mod my 9800 to fit, so i'm just wondering how you guys have done it?
any help and ideas would be apriciated and remember this is in aid of the Xtreme 3D Team cos i'm Xtreme :cool:

Standard stock/retail P4 sink. Drilled 2 holes in the base to correspond with the mouting holes on the card. Added 2 bolts, (trimmed the head off) these were sunk ~ 0.3cm into the holes and glued with araldite (2 part glue, resin + hardener). Had to trim 2 sections off the sink either side at the top (see pic) to to things being in the way, and file a little off 2 of the corners.
Mounts with 2 bolts and some rubber washers no problems.
Takes the 9800 to 515 core with an 80mm tornado which isnt at all bad.
Intel or A64 sinks seem to be ideal for gfx cards, they tend not to have the recessed edge the socket A ones do, and have a larger number of thinner fins.
Sink should also fit the x800 series, need confirmation of this however. It DOES fit the 9500 series though, and 9700, as long as you have the notches cut out with sufficient clearance, and file a little :)
would this work on a gf4 mx440? im thinking about doing the exact same thing
Yea, just look for some mouting holes to use :)
Had to use the inner 4 holes on the GF4 to get a sink to mount, but it works
nicely done there highlander, certainly think i'll be trying this tomorow

i've got all the bits exept the bolts to attach to the heatsink, i just dont have thin enough to go thru the mounting holes
still looking good after all these years. my g4mx's had the heatsinks bonded to the core, i couldnt remove them
We are on xtremesystems here so i think THIS should be in good place :D
If you still havent found any, Halfords "M3" bolts/nut sets are ideal for the raddy series.Quote:

Here is my mod .. I used an old Athlon XP aluminium cooler ... i didnt remove the 9800's protective shroud around the GPU so I had to lap the heatsink and leave a square block on the center (not hard to do if you have the tools)

I used a few on my 9800xt, first was a powerleap s370 alum hsf,cooled pretty good and was silent,then i wanted more,went to the store and grabed a chrome plated s370/A copper monster,lapped it good and made the mounting hardware for it,that worked killer but the problem with it was i never transferd enuff heat out on the stock fan,the 1 i liked best was a old cheap Tt silver orb....that gained me mucho better temp's.Ill try and dig up them old pic's.
EDIT:: It's a shame to see all these nice card's with no V mod's on them :(
