Crucial Ballistix PC3200 Summary

DIMMs were a pair of Crucial Ballistix PC3200 512MB modules. You can see nice orange-gold Ballistix aluminum heatspreaders:

i'm also surprised they're not overlabled with the ballistix logo

micron is a mix of UTT and TCCD, scales ok on sub 3v if u lossen timings to 2.5-3-3-x. but can take more voltage if need, and get similar speeds at tighter timinigs.

most are good for 240-250 2.5-3-3-x to 2(.5)-2-2-x depending on voltage.

personally i like them, good low level overclocker as they are easyish to use too.

mine can do 248mhz at 2.5-2-2 with 2.8v.. they just don't scale too well with more voltage/higher timings. i think there's something up with my board because of that though :stick:

I changed module image now. Previous was only for imagination. Now it is real ones. Sorry for it. ;)

The 244-255 MHz with relatively tight timings makes the Ballistix a good match, in my opinion, for a P4 at 3.0/3.2/3.4GHz cpu and a socket 865/875 mobo.

Cooling is key!

Today I bought Zalman FG123. It is my best OC investment (is very cheap).

Results are outstanding. Now I am running Prime95 at 260MHz with the same setup. Without cooling I had always error at Memtest86 test No.5 about 254 – 255 MHz. Now Memtest86 is running on 265 MHz!!!

I will need more testing for new limits and stability. I will publish more soon :cool: .

The key to over clocking Micron memory is to keep it cool. You should be able to hit 280HTT 2.5,2,3,5 with 3.3 volts but you have to get rid of the heat spreaders and put on ram sinks. You have to keep the mem chips under 65C.

I have a set of 2x512 PC3200 running 250, 2.5-2-2-5 on the IC7-G. This is where the ram shines - try to get that kind of speed limited to 2.8 VDIMM. On a 3.40C, you are talking 4 gig, so this flies with that kind of timings.

I have not run the sticks much on the DFI NF4; last time I tried I think I got around 253-255 @ 3.1 volts. I tried for 270, 2.5-2-3-5 but no go.

With even junk UTT stuff capable of 255, 2-2-2-6, it's a moot point so I quit testing. The ram is great on P4 rigs, where it can run 5:4 at 2.5-2-2-5 up to 300 fsb, with maybe a bump up to 2.9 VDIMM.

Before I did the VDIMM mod on the NF8, I ran 260x10, 2.5-2-3-5 @ 2.8 volts. Try that with TCCD :lol2:.

266 MHz

Probably way for best OC will be removing heatspreaders and use RAM sinks (SnipingWaste idea – thanks). Advantage will be possibility for higher DIMM voltage, better timing and higher frequency. Question only is warranty… ;)
