awesome!
Wow finally a somewhat affordable AMD dual core
That should mean a price drop come August 1st. GOOD! How do you rate 2 X 3200+ as 3800+. AMD PR rating is bunked to say the least.
meh, I wish it was 1MB L2/2.0ghz that would be sexy
No, I believe the same article says the 4200+ will remain at $547 or whatever it is.Quote:

Basically the PR numbers are not much more than model numbers, like the Opteron stuff, where higher = better performance within a family.
Not complete model numbers like the Opteron, because in that case, there would not be multiple flavors of 3800+ (Venice SC, and the coming X2 DC), so you still need to refer to "A64 3800+" or "A64 X2 3800+" to identify a part.
So, stop trying to equate them linearly to benchmark suites-- they don't make sense that way, regardless of the official line.
Just accept them as model numbers.
The 3800+ X2, while having the smaller L2, should be a nice overclocker, one would think, easily surpassing the stock 4600+ frequency of 2.4GHz.
Knew this was coming a while ago. They needed a lower clocked X2 to better compete with Intel.
Now pull out the dual core 1.6 GHz 1MB for 250 and I'm all over it :)
Yeah, that would presumably be an X2 4000+.Quote:

The X2 3800+, being Manchester, is 147mm^2, so their cost is lower, more parts per wafer, and the only market segment is desktop, as these parts are not ever branded as Opterons.
For desktop DC unit market share, yes. (as opposed to performance :) )Quote:

:slobber: :slobber: OMG , X2 Dual Core , i'm coming :D
You bet these are leftovers from 4200-4800, something's telling me you won't see much overclock from them.
first batch should oc like hell as always every body runs to buy them the next batch sux lol
Well this is good news, that price is much more inline with what the OCing crowed would like to see. I've not decided wich X2 I'm going to get yet, but I'm leaning towards the 4400+
the 4400 is nice if the stores sell them at the price they should 560$ but this for 345 is awesome at least you can OC @ 2.4 that is for sure and that is a 4600
wow, this is really nice :woot:
I am buying a 4400+ as soon as i sell this extra damn X850XT:PE i got laying here. I am hopeing for a nice overclock to atleast 2.6ghz
Excellent move by AMD...by coming down in price like that on the lower clock model, they compete with the Pentium D 2.8...except that this new X2 will likely walk all over the Pentium D for the same price.
This will make an excellent upgrade part for budget conscious users of older (and newer;)) Socket 939 boards. Well, they probably won't clock as high as a 4800+, it should still move up to 2.2-2.4ish without too much trouble.
I'm sure there will be some binning of these chips as the initial craziness over the X2 dies down a bit.:)

The Rev E K8 core should have an excellent o/c from 2.0GHz, as long as you can cool it.
With 2 cores, you can only go as high as the worse of the two, but still, I'd think 2.6GHz should be achievable for most 3800+ X2s, with 2.4GHz almost guaranteed.
I don't think AMD is producing many K8 cores that run at 2GHz but not at 2.6GHz with a little voltage, at this point. Look at single core Venice o/c for guidance.
3800 7800gt dfi and a nice ram and you have a killer system wow now i have to sell all my HW LOOL
is this official , this is the first time I hear anyone talk about new X2 chips. How reliable is the source? August 1 is coming in like 3 weeks, I can see these chips to be even more RARE than the 4200+..... basically its probably a chip that you cant buy...
You may not see it exactly on Aug 1 in stores, but i bet they will be available before the first week of Aug is over. BTW WELCOME TO XS!!!!!.Quote:
