Those of you considering 2GB kits-Might wanna check this out!

Got this kit plus another just like it for review/testing purposes :) :toast:

Can't disclose brand/type as of yet, but nice to see 250+ with normal volts and easy as cake. Not sure what IC's so don't ask as I'm not about to rip spreaders off of ram I don't own :fact:

thought I'd share the info, and I believe next teus when the guys are back in office I can get permission to give you name of company.

I'll give u clue, will be rated at these timings and will not be 3200, 3500, or 4000 rating to the best of my knowledge. Use your noodles and read between the lines :)

I'm planning to compare to 4x512mb at 2T later on at 2-2-2-6(redline modules).

these are still very new to me so I'm just beginning to tweak. Super Pi 32m run just to show stability for Bacchus ;). System totally untweaked as of yet.

OCZ has 2x1gb ram that does better than that for awhile now. I hope to see better reports. :confused:

at 250+?
my understanding is no 2gb kits were going reliably above 250+ except a few crucial ballistix sets, but that was very hit and miss. Ninjactionjeans had some killer 1gb sticks or 2gb kit that did 250+ at 2.5-2-2-8.

These won't do that, but I have 2 kits and each does 245+ and one does 255 ;).

I've been hunting for a set that would do 250+ at 3-3-3-8 or less timings.

These do that ;) and hold 1T command for those that can't seem to let the whole 2T thing go. What I'm really interested in doing is a comparison of these with my 4x512mb redline running 2t and tight timings to see how they all compare. BTW these sticks will do 2-3-2-6 at 200mhz ;).

Just to start off the guessing game.

With those timings...maybe Crucial/Ballistix ram with Micron chips?

I am very interested in that comparison.

Geez, hurry up I was about to buy some crucial value 5b D's or what have you. :D

Ahh-hem, my bad. I got 2 types of mem mixed up. I was thinking of the crucial 2x1gig sticks and this OCZ thread at the same time. Your sticks are better than the OCZ version.

For the record, my Crucial/Ballistix guess was at 7:09 PM, before your edit of post #4 at 7:13 PM. The initial post was simply "at 250+?".

It makes it look like I read your Crucial comment, then "guessed" Crucial right after you mentioned them. Just wanted to clarify that little point for anyone that came along later, that's all.

And by the way...those are nice 2 gig sticks, bound to start up the debate again over whether or not we need two gigs.

But 4 x 512mB MUSHKIN Redline XP4000 run fine at 250+, 2-2-2, 2T.... so what's the difference in going to 2 x gB sticks??

1T with 2 sticks of mem and 2T with 4 sticks of mem. 1T wipes the floor with 2T in memory bandwidth.

well the difference would be 1T command, and any differences that might make in performance!

Alot of people balked at buying 4x512mb of redline b/c of the 2t command thing. Problem with 1GB modules has traditionally been crud timings. Not that these are super duper low, but at least liveable. TCCD like as tbh 2.5 to 3 Cas isn't going to matter. Trp and trcd is where it's at performance wise, for the mainstream that is. Benchers like Charlie and Opp will always want lowest timings, this obviously is not where this memory is targeted.

later tonight I plan to run benches in 3d01 and super pi, I don't have ton of time so please guys let's be realistic about what u request. But if you have other ideas please lmk.

problem is getting right set!

I don't see any posts on the OCZ getting high at tight, although it may totally be my oversight. The Ballistix are total Drool if you get the right set. Problem is they are very variable. If every set did 260+ like that one guy posted at 2.5-2-2-8 then we'd see alot more posts.

I disagree. First of all, how are we to know this ram you are testing isn't just "the right set"...even you can't tell us that for sure, you may have gotten lucky too.

Secondly, look for some 2x1GB reviews for OCZ ram in the plat or titanium, most of the time they prove to OC 240-250 with 2.9-3.1volts with 2-3-2 timings.

Lastly, I don't think it's the odds of the Ballistix that keep us from seeing more posts on them, but simply the availability. 2x1GB of Ballistix is more than a pretty penny and finding it isn't always that easy either. I think if they were cheaper we'd see a lot more posts on them period. After all, they are PC4000, they have to atleast be able to do that and with 2.5/3-2-2 timings, the odds should still be pretty good.

not sure what to tell you. I was just trying to share some information that I thought might peak someone's curiousity.

I have seen recently someone in a forum(forget where) that couldn't get crucial tighter than 3-3-3-8(still decent) at 250, but again given the price he was disappointed seeing the other guy getting 2.5-2-2-8.

I don't think these are "special sets" as from what I'm told they are being binned out to perform well.

To that point, you may be right, maybe I should just forget about it. Maybe I shouldn't be excited to have another option.

which makes me think the ram will be using micron 5b D chips ;)
also, i'm fairly certain that all ocz EB uses micron chips, so they too are likely to be the same 5b D

I really can't, I've only read about four, that was one of them. The other is at TechPowerUp and that shows that they can suck as well. :p:

The other two I read months back, and only one really stood out because the reviewer hit around 265mhz with them 2-3-2.

And JNav, please don't misunderstand me, I love your posts and this one to me is no different and I greatly appreciate the info and look forward to your review. The point I was trying to make was simply one of information as you seemed to claim this set as being outstanding when currently, it seems to be on par with average Ballistix.

Quite simple :) Buy 2x512MB Redline for benching, and 2x1GB of this stuff or Ballistix for everyday use :p:

2GB is nice because of newer games (BF2 for example), and the ability to turn off the swap file ...

Well we know it'll be Mushkin :)

The only thing that has held me back from getting a 2gig pair of Ballistix is the $$$...just to much even for 2gigs at todays mem prices. If these sticks are priced right I'll give em a close look. More and more games need 2gig, so it's nice to see more memory peddlers are gearing up to accmondate gamers.
