DFI + RedlineXP4000 issue: can't pass 254Mhz HTT

Recently i bought a DFI Ultra-D and Mushkin Redline XP4000 memory.
Today i finally had some time to play with it, but overclocking gives me problems...

I immediatly flashed my bios to the 510-2 modded by Hellfire bios.

I started out with 3,2V (with the 3,3V jumper on).
This lead me to 254MHz. 255Mhz instantly reboots.

Then I did the Bigtoe jumper trick and set Vdimm to 3,45V.
But still reboots at 254MHz.

Then i flashed to original 510-2 bios.
This didn't help anything. Still same result, no matter what voltage 255MHz reboots.

Then i flashed to 331-2 bios.
Which gave me worse results.

I tried the yellow and the orange slots, both give reboots at 255MHz.

The A64Tweaker setting i used:

and SPD timings.
Nothing helped.

I tried multiplier 9x and 10x. Still reboots at 255MHz.

The cpu, my FX55, did 11x262,6 on my Neo2.
So i guess it aint a memcontroller issue.
My bh-5 that does 262,5MHz wont do cas 2 on the DFI :stick:
Changing from cas 2.5 to cas 2 in A64Tweaker results in a freeze.

I'm kinda out of ideas...

Can someone help me out?

Don't know if it's relevant to tell,
but i'm running Win2k3 with only directx9.0 and nvidia chipset drivers installed.

Jack, I just got this memory today, i am playing around with it now.

So far I got to 267x11@2-2-2-6, but this needs 3.5v to pass memtest.

I also have created a "wall of fans" (6x40mm) and have them sitting right infront of the ram for cooling.

So far it likes volts, and the TRC setting seems to have a heavy effect of stability, try tweaking it. Oh and I'm using the 510-2 bios as some people had probs with the hellfire, and the yellow dimm slots.

i have a 80mm directly above the mem and it's cold in my room.
Memory didn't even got warm, stayed cold all the time...

and i had TRC at 7.
What A64Tweaker settings did you use?

In windows anything past 254MHz will result in a instant reboot,
but with the build-in Memtest from the bios i can loop test 5 @256MHz @3,2V without any! errors :stick:

Fixed! :D

LTD at 4x instead of Auto
And a bit extra voltage for the Vltd and Vchipset did the trick

Hey Jack, what you got your Redline upto now you fixed your issue?

Personally I'm really pleased with mine, so far upto 270mhz @1.5-2-2-6 rock stable. I think theres more left in the tank too, but I'm happy with it as it is. Upping your TRC should get you extra mhz too, with very little real world impact (memtest shows drop in bandwidth, but benchmarks and apps don't).


By the way, I found that mine really like weak dram drive strength. I got it set to 3 and dram data at 1, this gave me loads of extra head room on the 510-2 bios....just thought you might be interested.

it's now Pifast stable at 270MHz 1.5-2-2-3 @ 3.5V (Measured in the dimm slot).

I'll try the drive settings you gave and report the results here :)

Yellow is better for UTT. AngryGames himself uses Yellow for ALL RAM. I'm using yellow for my VX.

Please use the regular 5V jumper setting and then try 3.5 @ 255. Do be sure to use a meter to measure your Vdimm too.

Try 623-3 BIOS plz.

My DFI overvolts. 3.3 gives me about 3.41 with the 0.03 boost on. 3.38 with teh boost off. ALWAYS USE A METER. BIOS readings are NEVER accurate.

Never used the 5V line... I raised my 3,3V rail of the PSU.
I did the Bigtoe jumper trick so my vdimm still runs of the 3,3V rail but i can raise it by raising the 3,3V of the PSU.
Yellow slots always... Tested the orange ones multiple times, but they always gave me worse results.

i have the 0,03+V option enabled.
And i measured my vdimm in PIN1 of the memory slot (pin most close to the vdimm jumper)

I found some thing odd in my experiences with Redline XP4000. By using 3.3V from the 5V line I can easily reach 260MHz 2-2-2-6... very stable but mosfet very hot... if I change feeding to the 3.3 line @ 3.5 (Bigtoe mod) with the same volts I can barely run at 254 and even with some instability... I'm using BIOS 2.17 and orange slots.

Ppl said Yellow Slots is better for UTT and old school BH5 or CH5 but in my case , the Orange slots are better , i tried with OCZ VX , Gskill GH and Mushkin LII and the rersult is the Orange Slots better , not Yellow

I have yet to find a memory that I can even boot with in my yellow slots (if my orange aren't populated).....TCCD, CH-UTT, 5B -D, and generic crap (SAT-5?). Mushkin does say that they must be run in the yellow slots though.

Same here, when I had VX, I couldn't boot in yellow. Orange works well on my board for UTT/TCC5 :confused:

As far as i have seen, every board likes different mem slots better...
Some perform better with the yellow slots, some with the orange ones :)

I'll check it out and let you know if my board has the same issue

I use yellow. It just depends from person to person.

Also, AngryGames @ DFI-Street (the DFI support guy) recommends yellow for UTT. He says that he uses yellow for ALL types of ram for himself.

Using the Redlines in the yellow slots -->> No Probl to boot the Rig.

i can boot with orange or yellow slots, only the yellow slots give me a higher OC :)
and with bios 510-2 modded by Hellfire, that is...

it could be a bad memcontroller

the memcontroller on my Venice 3200+ maxes out @ 230Mhz FSB @ 2550 Mhz
but at low multiplier 250 mhz FSB ran flawless
so its not my BH-5
