DFI NF4: Your board or memory been killed?

UPDATED! Users, PLEASE answer the questions below or your vote in the poll is bascally useless! If there is a problem, we need to find out why and correct the issue as soon as possible. your settings and hardware has a huge effect on the amount of time it will take. thus, you NEED to answer the questions!

There seems to be a lot of talk about the 5v rail memory option kill motherboards and ram.

For the sake of overclocking man kind, PLEASE answer the poll then post in the thread your specs.

Here is what we need to know:

1) Were you using the 5v rail when the memory died?
2) Did it kill the board also?
3) What bios were you on?
4) What RAM were you using and in what slots?
5) What voltage were you running?
6) Is this your only board that you use for 24/7 use or is it used only for benching? IMPORTANT!
7) Did you cool the ram and the upper right corner of the board with some fans?
8) What powersupply were you using?
9) What bios settings were set? (list all you can...more the better)
10) What is the serial number of the board?
11) Was the board made in Taiwan or China?
12) What method did you use to switch to the 5v rail?
13) Did you have settings in CMOS Reloaded?

This info will be VERY useful to MANY people, not only end user but also at DFI to help resolve the issue if there is one.

Please do you best to answer all questions to the best of your ability.

You may want to refer to this thread for future updates on what to do. Untill then, I would recommend using the 3.3v jumper with a tweaked 3.3v rail.

I posted a thread on how my dfi just died out of nowhere and now I now for sure the chip set died on it.

3 days before the board died the chipset fan was running full blast and was almost lauder than my cpu fan.I noticed and check and it was running on the hot side 45-50 in bios

I wasnt streesing the board at all and im sure it was from using the 5v jumpers.

Since the decision to use the 5v jumper and high Vdimm was solely that of the user. IF DFI is responsible for anything its not putting a big red sticker on the jumper that says "USE AT YOUR OWN RISK"

i wonder if modding to SLI would have anything to do with it?

i didn't know this was a common problem. i THOUGHt it killed some twinmos UTT, one stick woulnd't work. i go put it in some crappy HP intel rig. and it suddenly works. So thats pretty weird. I've had it kill memory before on 5v rail. but then again, it might ahve only stopped working for the DFI, but i never tried it.

No the board seems to be fine.

My first set went bad right after I flashed from stock BIOS to 310 one, the second set went bad while I was on 310 BIOS

4) What RAM were you using and in what slots?

First set was TwinMOS TMSP400 (2x512) AA4T/44D, CH-5/UTT. The second set was TwinMOS TMII400 (2x512) AA4T/50D, CH-5/UTT

5) What voltage were you running?

First set I was using 3.4V, Second set I started using 3.4V too, but changed it to 3.2V and used it at 3.2V for about a month

6) Is this your only board that you use for 24/7 use or is it used only for benching?

I guess it is 24/7 along with my AN7 one.

7) Did you cool the ram and the upper right corner of the board with some fans?

Yes, 80mm Panaflo H fan in the lower 5.25" drive cage blowing over top right corner and across the DIMMs

8) What powersupply were you using?

Enermax Noisetaker 485W, 24-pin, dual +12V rails at 18A each.

9) What bios settings were set? (list all you can...more the better)

I don't remember all but here are a few configurations I have been usually running:
1. CPU: 9x260, 1.40V; RAM: 1:01 260, 2-2-2-5-1T, 3.4V; LDT: 1.3V; VDD: 1.6V
2. CPU: 9x280, 1.55V; RAM: 9:10 252, 2-2-2-5-1T, 3.2V; LDT: 1.3V; VDD: 1.6V

10) What is the serial number of the board?

Don't know and I don't feel like taking the board out so I can read it from the last PCI slot.

11) Was the board made in Taiwan or China?

Don't know, same as no. 10

Based on the poll so far 35% of users having problems with this board is a big concern.

what you need to state guys is how long you use the board each day...i have found users more at risk are the ones who use it the most.

Hmm. I'm running my DFI between 2 to 10 hours a day at 3,2V with adequate cooling and no troubles.

I'm a tad worried now about running off the 5V jumper as I dont fancy killing my Corsair XMS BH5 :(

I have had some problems with OCZ VX, but since all the other sticks of RAM I have still works perfect, im thinking I just had bad luck with my VX.

4x 512 VX overclocked poorly

Anyone killed their Old BH5, or just UTT?
