Yeah but nobodys overclocking them. NotsoHardOCP didn't even try. Are they under a NDA or bind not to overclock. I know it's a preview, but it would be nice to see some preliminary results. I would love a dual core AMD. Video encoding nearly grinds my 3500+ to a halt.
-
The NDA was removed. The sites are allowed to show them. Come to mention it, why doesn't XS get one? :(
-
Speaking about X2 overclocking, guys from russian site fcenter.ru found only one mobo that could work with X2 just right. It`s latest tech BIOS wasn`t able to adjust Vcore or multy, but they hit 225MHz HT and got 2.7 GHz benchable X2. Althought they didn`t use OC X2 in the tests.
P.S. my 1st thread :fact:

added more reviews, wow, theres really a flood of reviews...
welcome to XtremeSystems cooper :toast:
kinda weird if you ask me, are you sure that site isnt biased? all other sites didnt have a problem running the x2 cpus on any board they tried, even nf3 boards.
-
MMMMMMMMM, AMD OWN4G3 tastes so good.
-
Well X2 works fine on any board, but...only in single-core mode. As I looked throughout all these previews, the test-bed in every o`them included ASUS A8N SLI mobo-the only mobo that uses both cores at once. I think it`s just a matter of time for developers to make new BIOS version, supporting dual-core CPUs. I`ll repeat that ASUS`s BIOS used in reviews is just tech sample.
-
hmmm so the other boards only showed one core? are you sure?

That`s just what I`ve read. Haven`t find that article about X2 on nf3 which you mentioned. Could you post that one ?
The site isn`t biased. It has only independent reviews and articles.
and a very good article about P4 & it`s dark side - the replay function.
-
To test the AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ CPU, we used an NVIDIA nForce 4 SLI based motherboard from Asus, the A8N-SLI Deluxe and it was equipped with a pre-release BIOS that supported AMD's new dual-core processors.
AMD's new dual-core "X2" processors will work with virtually any socket 939 platform as it exists today. The only caveat is that your motherboard will need a BIOS upgrade to support an Athlon 64 X2. We suspect most major motherboard manufactures will have updated BIOS files available in time for the official release of the Athlon 64 X2. <c> hothardware.com

hmmm i think theinq said that one of the sites tested the cpu even on old nf3 boards, sudhian i think... but i dont know... sorry :D
and the p4s weak point ... replay function? whats that?
hmmm but not all reviews were done on the asus boards or where they? i havent had time to read them yet. :D

saaya
I`ve just overlooked the reviews and every of them had ASUS mobo as test-bed.
About the replay function, well it`s a big article .But if you`re interested I can translate it for you. Maybe others would be interested too.

yeah id be very interested in reading it :)
and thx for going through the reviews, they were all done on an asus board hmmmm thats a smart move from asus :D
it seems amd is making some good friends now after all the trouble they had with their partners before :D
