An Idea for A64 bioses
here's my thought. right now there is a "ratio" that sets the memory divider from what the cpu muliplier is. i think it's a pain to have to tweak the ratio and multi to get the divider wanted while still keeping htt within usable limits...
to fix this, would it be possible to replace that ratio with an actual divider selection? :confused:
if that doesn't make sense, say so... i'll try to explain better :stick:

I second this request. It would be great if I could run an HTT of 300 and a memory speed of 259. That ratio is approximately 31:36 (.86333..:1), but nothing in the DFI bios is close to that.

well you wouldn't be able to select that ;)
i'm talking about replacing "FSB:RAM Ratio" with the actual memory divider, which would probably be "CPU:RAM Ratio"
and it only comes in integers.

Dont believe it can be done, or not to 10ths/100ths/etc pricision.
What would be nice, however, is a calculator or something in the bios that shows what the resulting cpu mhz/mem mhz/htt mhz will be when you save & exit... that works off settings you set in the bios as you change them, and shows them correctly.

no, i know that the memory divider takes the cpu speed and divides it by an integer. why can't that integer be selected instead of dealing with silly ratio stuff?

The CPU acctually decides the number on its own based on the information fed to it by the mobo. The CPU is unaware of the FSB. It knows, I am on a 11X multi, the memory is supposed to run at 166MHz, I will use a 9X devidor to satisfy the SPD of the memory. Almost every single mobo supports sending manually selected SPD information so you can choose how fast you want to CPU to belive it is supposed to run the memory.

so basically the cpu does the divider selecting, not the bios? :(

I understand exactly what you mean, and have often wondered the same, but craig588 is correct. For instance, if you use A64Tweaker, you'll notice that the "MEMCLK Frequency" field contains the same choices that you'll see in your BIOS settings. This is the only divider data passed to the CPU. Until a different method is used, aside from do all of the ratio calculations individually, your best bet would probably be using this divider table.

ya, i know how to calculate the ram divider. i actually made an entire post about it in [H] to explain it to people (it's in my sig) :toast:
i was just getting sick of trying to fumble with multis and ratios to get dividers that i wanted, and was wondering if it was posiible to set it directly.
but, this has been answered.. a sad no, but considering things, i do believe that what you say is correct :(
