Gclg2000's Cascade

Ok guys, i'm starting over (re-doing) my cascade pretty much from scratch.
Will be R502 on 1st stage and R1150/R290 on 2nd stage

Parts include:

(1) 120v LG 5150 BTU Rotary w/ accumulator
(1) 120v Matshushiita 5160 BTU Rotary w/ accumulator
(1) Packless Industries COAX-2050 Water cooled Condensor for HX 1/2 Ton
(1) AC & R Oil Seperator S-5180 (3/8" IN/OUT 3/8" oil return)
(1) TEV for 1st stage (Parker C-AA-SW) 1/4" inlet 1/2" outlet 1/8 - 1/2 Ton
(1) PEV for 2nd stage (Parker A7-AA) 1/4" inlet and 3/8" outlet
(1) Desuperheater 6-row mini condensor or single row mini condensor
(1) Condensing unit ~1/2 Ton or so (Freebie from A/C Shop)
(1) 1st Stage Filter Drier Compression fitting ( 1/4" M-F)
(1) 2nd Stage Filter Drier Compression fitting ( 1/4" M-M)
(1) 42" Suction Line; 1/2" OD 3/8" ID Steel Braded Corregated
(1) Chilly1 Evap block w/ enclosure

Would have been nice if i could have crammed it all onto that Condensor platform, but oh well. I'm entirely open to suggestions or comments to help make this better, so please by all means jump in and tell me what can be done better or need's to be changed.

Damn Nice Parts. Can’t wait to see the process and workmanship of building it. Lots of pic please. With the gas and compressors you got you will be rocking a solid neg Temp. Have fun and enjoy

I never saw a name of second stage expansion valve - PXV? I know only
those valves regulated by our hands : PEV, CPEV, AXV, AEV, but not PXV.

PXV = Pressure Expansion Valve?

According on your parts, I should say you will have a good start :cool:

Well guys i'm still waiting on a couple parts to get in before i really get my hands dirty, but i got to thinking and drew up a cascade plan for fun.......

I have an extra Danfoss TT2.5F (~165w heat capacity) that i think i'm going to kinda cascade it with a suction line HX from the 1st stage, and use for a GPU cooler.

A drawing is below....i hope i got this mostly right (pretty sure i did).

I would just use a blend of R404 and propane for the GPU, and of course have an on/off switch for when i didn't want to use it, but just the CPU block.

Should the sense bulb for the TXV be after both suction line HX's?

the gpu portion is that going to run a second or first stage refrigerant?? (edit 1st stage read again)
if its first stage might not see much of a gain compared to a stand alon gpu cooler, unless ya autocascade it. :toast:

good idea though.

drawing looks good though. only thing are they driers or recievers in there before txv.
will you be using sligh glass with the txv?

They are drier's. I'm using those "catch all" grey drier's.

Do i need to add any reciver's in the loops...are they really neccessary?

And yeah, i will add a sight glass to the TXV.

Also, i guess i wouldhave to use a 2nd stage gas on it?? You think it would be cold enough to condense R1150??

where ya use a txv or pev ya need a reciever.
this is a drawing in my cascade thread by chilly1 , im pritty sure the reciever goes before the drier in that pic.
and other one from garrys harnd book from cascade thread at team puss forum.
they reduce the chance of the txv hunting i think, ensure a constant liquid frow to the txv if know what i mean.
i still havnt got around to using my txv though, lazy.

as for the gpu side not sure if able to condense 1150 with the arrangment ya got there for an autocascade. ya have to test that for us. maybe just a little of 1150 for first test. migh see some gain, really depends on how how big hx is and what temp liquid line is at to what pressure it condenses at if at all.

i guess it really depends what temp the suction line hx can hold and how much 1150 you put in there compared to say r290 or somethin else.
a really small amount of 1150 might get some better temps.

ya gonna have to test it, ill get 1150 one day and do some testing.

yeah your probobly going to need to step down to some ofthe 2nd stage gas, the scution line hx prolly wont do it for ya seing as it already at 10 degrees of superheat ;)

Yeah, i was hoping someone wouldn't say that, but i kinda thought it may be coming. I guess i could make a small coiled tube inside tube HX to put inbetween the original suction line HX and suction hose. Prob 1/4" inside 3/8" or something. Let the 1/4 " be used on the TT2.5F danfoss.

My other concern is....think my 1st stage rotary and 1st stage condensor is big enough to handle this???

Well i've decided it would just be easier to make the seperate GPU cooler a normal single stage. Be nice to have it a seperate little unit anyways for NB cooling.

would of seen no real gain, unless used another 2nd stage gas in there for the gpu cooler side.
but it would of reduced the cpu cascade temps adding larger load to first stage.
it you flooded the hx to the low side suction line hx it would of been ok.
But unless using second stage gas a normal single stage gets plenty of subcooling just wrapping the capillary line around the suction line.

jsu yua forgot that the 10c supa heat is 6" before the compressor for well tuned system. Not at the hx.
a good hx is flooded in and out so the suction line hx should still be close to hx temps, if ya gases/tunned it that way.

i got a problem with post one pic though, i see 4 compressors, wheres the gpu cascade drawing ;) :stick:

l like my rig too thanxs. shes already rolling, im sorta happy the way it is now.
but i will change it im sure, i cant help myself.
new idea/ mod bound to happen, that or it turns into autocascade with another new hx for the cacade. if i finsh it then i have nothing to do phase change wise and i cant have that.

lol yeah.

Actually, i have more compressor's that in that picture. I have an embarco and and extra matsushiiita compressor too. I've sold a couple of them though to get rid of them and stop collecting dust.

Ok guys, I'm STILL WAITING on my expansion valves to arrive.
But in the mean time i've gotten a long 42" suction hose for it, 1st stage Filter Drier w/ sight glass.

Couple updated pics below, and a MSPAINT drawing of how i'm going to put the 1st stage "guts" together. (with help from chilly1 of course :toast: )

Ok finally got some more part's in. Mainly the PEV and TEV and also picked up another drier to be used on the 2nd stage.

TEV for 1st stage (Parker C-AA-SW) 1/4" inlet 1/2" outlet 1/8 - 1/2 Ton

PEV for 2nd stage (Parker A7-AA) 1/4" inlet and 3/8" outlet

Ok fella's, now i'm really starting to get some progress done. I've started to insulate the HX. Used some Styrene sheets and some expandable foam inside a box (tribute to chilly1 style). Also cut out a platform to build it on. It's about 17" x 22"...I put some little rolling wheels on the bottom, but may make the unit a little bit more narrow.

Also got some better pics of the valves i'll be using and my 42" suction hose.

Anyways, pics kinda speak for themselves below. Enjoy, and please comment on how i can make it better!!:toast:
