A friend has a BIG problem, and it is that installing its new vapochild in his fx-55 he confuse thermal silicone with the dielectric grease :D and it amount all...and now this all full one of thermal silicone... as he can clean it???

A friend of him has put thermal paste instead of dielectric grease while instaling a vapochill. (all the socket and the cpu filled with thermal paste :banana: )
He asks if there is any way to clear this or if there is any solution
I'm guessing his friend used thermal silicone instead of dielectic grease when mounting it. When installing a Vapo you have to slap the whole socket up in this nasty stuff, to prevent condensation. Living in Denmark does have some advantages :)
a) - To me he sounds pretty screwed.
i) Slap himself a few times, thenget a new mobo :rolleyes:
b) - Try cleaning alcohol, then benzin and if your really desperate acetone, but that will most likely completely :banana::banana::banana::banana: up the mobo as its pretty aggressive.
Now I dont know how conudctibe that stuff he used is, however I had an acquaintance who slapped the socket up in AS5. The result was something along the lines "You're having a barbeque insides?!".

Just might add that getting rid of the grease is a LONG a LENGTHY process, be prepared that it could take you about a day if you manage to get rid of everything inside the socket as well. Bad memories when trying to get rid of a mobo that was used under a Vapo...

He has not only thermal paste in the socket. He has thermal paste in ALL the cpu pin's. I think that cleanning the cpu wil be more much difficult than the mobo..Quote:

buddy, if you are looking for cleaning the MoBo from the Thermal Grease, then i would recommend you using a Carburetor Cleaner, you can find it in garages. the good thing about it, that it's doesn't harm PCB's. ;) (how i used/still clean CPU's from AS)
BTW, your friend is a :banana: he should start reading manuals before using anything! :D :D

One phrase from overclocking.dk I love in particular: "Fejl 40". This means "Error 40". The meaning of Error 40 is "The error is sitting 40cm away from the screen". I think it pretty much desribes how you could shove a $900 CPU into a nice socket like that and boot up :)
My old Duron didn't seem to fancy the idea of working after having AS3 in the socket and a leaking CPU head on it :D Kids, read the manual.
The best epsiode I have ever seen though was with a friends S754 3200+. He decided to go big and bought a Vapochill PE, with no experience of hardware what so ever. Not only did he slap the socket in AS5, but he forced the CPU in 90 degrees wrong, broke a few pins, put the Vapo on, and when it didnt work he gave everything a good shower. He couldn't have gone more off track could he? :D

Get 2 LARGE CANS of electronic cleaner spray (with the little extension tube to get in the small spots. )
Also get 2 LARGE CANS of compressed air at the computer/camera store.
Box of Tissue or Paper towel
1. Order the the backup board NOW (always good to have a spare :D )
2. Take everything outside. Start w/ the CPU. Alternate between the cleaner (gets stuff off) and the compressed air (forces dissolved stuff out and dries/ removes final residue). Should be done in less than 1/2 can of cleaner. :shrug:
3. Do the same thing w/ the socket, aim the tube into the holes like a hose and flush out the stuff, then use the air to force out some more. Concentrate on one side / edge at a time, then do the whole thing one last time.
4. Sacrifice on Chicken (Just kidding :D )

actually, if he used the thermal paste that came with the vapo, he should be fine. as long as he didn't do any other damage to the chip, like not waiting long enough for the evap head to warm up before removing it. that's a good way to bend pins and kill your cpu. the thermal paste in the socket thing has been done before and nothing horrible has happened as long as it's non-conductive thermal paste. the manual with the vapo is a little confusing about whether you can use the included thermal paste as dielectric grease so don't be so hard on the guy.
as to how to clean, do what mikee says and get a can of electrical cleaner, i bought something called crc cleaner at a hardware store and a can of compressed air. although the entire incident seems funny to everyone who isn't directly involved, we shouldn't be taking pleasure in the fact that someone thinks they've thrown $1200 down the toilet. well, maybe a little joy, but not that much. that depends on how evil you feel today...

#21. I'm from Denmark and know something about Vapochills. The stuff supplied by Asetek is dialectic grease, or in the worst case was in the SE/PE/XE series ad to my knowledge still is.
You are lucky that the CPU works, don't forget that. If you had used a conductive thermal compund (AS3, AS5 etc) your CPU you would long be dead. In regards to getting a "license", Vapo's are relatively easy to setup. But for :banana::banana::banana::banana:'s sake, you have to know the :banana::banana::banana::banana: you are doing (apologies for the bananas). A completely newbie messing with water or compressor cooling is bound to screw up. Hey even I screwed up, but I tested the mounting and functionailty on a sub €200 computer. I didn't just decide "Yo man I'm gonna like so totally cool my thing and beat OPP hehe". I know people who did this and they are pretty darn stupid.
Just remember to read the manual and perhaps get some experience before taking a run at €1500 CPU + CPU colling solution :rolleyes:
Yes we are good at humiliation. Perhaps because we find it unfair that unknowing and perhaps undeserving people (not necessarily your case, I know people who run FX-53 + LS at stock) usually have state-of-the-art hardware. It's really just an oppurtunity to let loose :)
