I can't help but wonder how they'll perform with a 1mb L2 vs the Pentium M 2mb L2 clock for clock? Any speculation on this?

yeah, this should be some good competition for the Pentium M...SSE3 should be on those chips, which the P-M doesn't have. Plus, the 1mb L2 should be nice.

Socket 754 is supposed to be the mobile socket. If these are coming out for laptops it finally gives 754 users something to upgrade to.

If i were a socket 754 user waiting on one of these CPU's i would start spamming emails to your motherboard manufacturers telling them that you WANT TURION CPUID STRINGS in a bios for your motherboard. All i can think of now is all the people in the past trying to find a compatible socket 754 boards that would boot the old low voltage mobile clawhammers... Don't let that happen again :0

I can't think of a reason to pick S754 over S939. Would DC memory require much more power?

If it will be S754, then I hope DFI will make a great new S754 motherboard based on the Nf4 or the new ATI chipsets.

Very unlikely. They can make a bios rev which will support the new cpu.

yeah, should be interesting to see how this goes for AMD...seems like a good move. Get chips in the three main sections: Server, desktop, and Mobile.

Go check out some of AMDs PDFs with their plans. (I don't know what they are called, but that have those charts with the H2Y2005 stuff in them)

I have seen it many times and am sure.

Links don't mean anything, I could make some website and claim anything on it. I could make it look very professional with a domain and everthing. (To get a month of hosting and a domain is only like 5$ these days)

Single-channel makes more sense on Mobile platforms because upgrading memory would be much more expensive with dual-channel. A notebook can get away with only 2 slots, one used and the other for upgrades. On a DC platform you'd need 4 slots, and the user would be forced to buy a DC kit when he/she decides to add more RAM.

They might be forced to use 939 though if they plan to make dual-core Mobiles.

Yeah, but not that one. There was one that had 3 rows, one mobile, one mainstream, one enthusiest. The 512K cache chips were in both the mainstream and mobile rows and each contained the socket 754 sub heading. The 1MB cache chips were in the mainstream and enthusiest row still with the socket 754 sub heading. In the 2nd column there were just 2 chips, both with 1MB of cache in the mobile and enthusiest rows. In the 3rd there was another chip in the mainstream that was also 1MB and there was a 2MB one in the enthusiest row.

I think that is aproximatly how it went, but I wanted him to see the entire PDF, with the accompanying text because they directly stated that 754 was going to become the mobile socket in that text.

EDIT: Oh wait, was that document only supplied to people that went to AMDs expo last summer? Maybe they never turned it into a PDF. I just looked around on google for it and nothing came up. I wish I saved it so I would know if that was in fact that one I might be thinking of.

i've heard of turion and lancaster, but why dont i see it on any of the roadmaps? what are its specifications?

Those are mobile chips and the only roadmap that has been posted recently relates the desktop chips.

I think Turion is the brand name that will encompass AMDs thin-and-light mobile technology, just like Centrino for Intel. Lancaster is one of the many actual cores that is planned for the Turion line.

This will probably be my next upgrade. I am just debating which would be better, the 3000+ 25w clocked at 1.8GHz, or the 3200+ 35w clocked at 2GHz. You'd think overclockability would be about the same (kind of like XP-M 2400+ 35w vs 2600+ 45w), but who knows. In the end I'll probably go with the 3000+, unless the price difference between it and the 3200+ isn't that much.
