MSI K8N Neo2 Platinium problem

Hi,

I just got a winchester and MSI K8N Neo2 Platinium and I'm not familiar with it. When I boot all fans start, hdd starts spinning etc but it shows no screen (black). I have used 2 different videocards. When I look at the usb bracket it show the following message:
BIOS Sign On
This will start showing information about logo, processor brand name, etc...
It just stays like this. I'm going to put some apacer ram to replace my other ram to see if this doesn't work.

Specs:
3000+
MSI K8N Neo2 Platinium
2x 256MB PC3200 Siemens (single sided)
9600Pro/9550/TNT2
WD&Maxtor ATA/IDE hdd's (tried both of them single)
Chieftec 360W (will be replaced by OCZ420W)

I can't see anything so bios is no options :(
Just tried double sided apacer ram and ain't working.

this happens to me EVERY "cold boot" after the comp has been off for 5+ hours.

after i turn it on the first time (does the same thing you describe)
i press and hold the power button in (force a shutdown) and then hit the power button again (startup) and boots "fine"...(says its in "safe mode or something and i need to go into BIOS and...so i go into BIOS change NOTHING, save and reboot) then im up and running...EVERY frickin time i have to go through that :rolleyes:

needless to say, i have the MachII on a 2nd PSU...

Could all these issues be due to picky ram !!!!, thats my likely guess

Looks like the only thing that could be the problem but I don't have any other ram that I could use :(
And it looks like my WD hdd just died, all the luck in the world.

Fire it up with one stick of ram and then flash to a newer bios.

Tried it and gives the same result :(

you will have to find a compatible memory I believe. I used OCZ EL series platinum and it worked perfectly but failed on my PQI turbo. I heard alot of people have had problems getting into the bios. Btw, what videocard did you use?

I had to RMA mine, doing the exact same thing. There were quite a few threads on the MSI forums a couple months ago. They all tried to blame it on the power supply initially. They made a (quite a) few boards with this problem.

Try another PSU if you can.........the one you use should do the trick though(booting anyway), but the msi has bin known to have some problems with some PSU´s....

I have used ATi9550 and a TNT2 AGP, a new psu will arrive next week so I could try it. I'm not able to get other memory because I'm broke :(. It would take too long.

I have just checked and my ram is on the compatiblity list for the msi k8n neo2. It works in all ramslots. If it ain't the psu I will have to get another mobo :(

I have switched my chieftec psu with a tybotech 300W (noname) and it still doesn't work, looks like I will have to rma the mobo. Does anyone know how to rma stuff from msi?

it could be the ati videocard. Did you try clearing the CMOS? and then take out the battery? That did the trick for me and even so I used a 9700 pro and it booted up just fine.

The only thing I haven't tried yet is taking the battery out. How long do I have to do this?

15 min to be on the safe side i would say........

Try booting with the clear CMOS jumper on the other position.

SAme exact problems for me, except my Antec True430W blew a capacitor, so I ordered an enermax..should be here around next tuesday. Seems alot of people are having these problems.

My board this tonight. This has been a frustrating experience. I'm using the comp right now. It seems REALLY picky though.

@omega65: If cpu fan header means that you connect your cpu fan to your mobo so it gets electricity, Its connected, I read the thread before I installed the mobo.
nOx34: I allready did this by accident and in the manual it says that this could damage your mobo.

I hope it will work with a new psu.

booting the neo2 with the clear CMOS will only leave a blank screen. I know because I did it and it will not harm the system. Btw, you only have to take out the battery for a few about 30 secs -1minute but make sure you turn off the psu switch and pull the plug before you pull the battery on the CMOS.

I have removed the heatsink and turned the system on and the cpu doesn't even get hot, could the cpu be dead?

As far as I know the computer won't power on without a cpu in the socket but I tried that years ago so I may or may not be sure. To check if the cpu is dead, take out the cpu and try to power it on but I highly doubt it's the cpu it seem more like a neo2 platinum problem.
