Diode Vs Motherboard Readings

myself and a friend were talking about our watercooling rigs and we compared temps.

His rig:
Diode - 37c
Block - 29c

My Rig:
Diode - 24c
Block - 35c

I then said that his setup looks odd as his diode is far higher than his block temps and generally in solid watercooling setups it should be the other way around due to no air flow around the motherboards CPU temp probe.

I don't really have solid info to prove this so i was wondering if anyone could breifly explain if i'm correct and why the above affect happens, ie, the diode is usually lower then the heatsink temp probe due to a lack of airflow around the waterblock.

I'm sure i've seen loads of thread about this...

yah most temp readings are garbage anyway... dont pay any attention to them.

maxx is right, when aircooling these temp readings are almost useless.
When watercooling they are totaly useless.

Just measure your water temps, that should give a good guide of how well your system is performing.

yeah but i wasn't trying to say the temps make sense, my temps are whacked!! when watercooling, socket temps are always pointless to take seriously because they don't indicate accuratly the CPU temp at all.

The thing is, following this rule, socket temps should record higher temps than diode with water, right? cos they are so whacked on watecooling due to no fans on or around the block, they give high temps.
