MSI Neo2 Platinum
I must buy a s939 mobo and i'm very confused... i must buy a mobo compatible with OCZ Ram Booster ( i have just ordered it :D ), could you help me please?
I have choice for 2 mobo, NFI or Gigabyte.
I don't know if i can wait the release of new DFI ( i live in Italy ;) ).
Is the MSI Neo2 Platinum (s939) compatible with OCZ Ram Booster?
In your opinion is a god mobo or is better the Gigabyte GA-K8NSNXP-939?
I must overclock :toast:
Thanks & bye all . :toast:

none?
Impossible! ;) maybe?

I have the K8N Neo2, and I must say that I love it!
With my rev 1.1 Abit Av8, I could only run the mem to about 218 1:1 before it crapped out. The Av8 couldn't bench at high speeds either. My FX-53 will do 2750MHz on H20, but I was limited to 255 x 10 for benching, and that was on a 333MHz RAM divider.
With the Neo2, I can get my 3700EB up to 260 1:1...and it's perfectly stable. I have no trouble with stability, and it benches quite well. The neo2 does have its fair share of quirks though, but nothing like the Av8.
With the Neo2:
- be sure to use SATA ports 3 & 4, as they are the only 2 of 4 that the PCI lock extends to consistently.
- set your AGP freq to 67 or 68MHz, this ensures that the AGP lock is working.
- Pay little attention to the temp readings the board gives you. It reports my FX-53 as idling at 49C, whereas my trusty temp probe reads a cool 31C. It's a BIOS issue, and should be fixed when the 1.3 BIOS hits.

hmm... Anand did a big s939 roundup not too long ago and found the VIA s939 MSI board the best...

Arkangyl, that was the NF3 MSI that they found the best.
Frost_Bite, i also have the Neo2 but I never found that i needed to set my agp in bios to 67 or 68mhz to lock it. Ive run my ram/HTT 1:1 up to 290mhz and the agp locks seems to be working fine with agp always reported as 66.xx in clockgen.
I have the ddr booster as well Juspriss but I havent tried it yet in this board. I'll let you know how it goes when I do get around to it.

Success with ddr booster
Ok I am now running the ddr booster at 3.2v on my Neo2. It does work fine and has allowed me to hit 300HTT 1:1 so far on my 3500 EBs.

Good! Tnx a lot m8! :toast:
You havn't a huge bandwidth, why? Bad timings?
Tnx again! ;)
-
Sorry I didn't specify but that was a unbuffered score.
Cheers
-
Those 3-5-5 timings don't look very good, but it's still quite an accomplishment to run 300 1:1.
-
damn Speaker4theDead you should be doing better than that look what I can do stock voltages you multi is waaay too low same thing with your ram bandwith

Mate my system runs fine at those same settings. My sandra score is a unbuffered score. My buffered score at 10x250 is the similar to yours.

This is not running 1:1 but I dont have access to that image that is running 1:1 250HTT. I'll upload that tonight if you guys want me to.
Cheers

wow... I'm retarded; sorry bout that :p

MSI K8N NEO2/Crucial Ballistix PC4000
Oh and I have a Booster but havent realy gave it a try yet

What kind of voltage options are on this mobo?
How high?
OPP
-
Nice blue. What timings is those ballistix at?
Max vdimm is 2.85v and vcore on the 1.0bios is 1.85v. I pretty sure the 1.1 bios i'm running does not give more vcore. Cant check as i'm at work.
Cheers

Cas2.5-3-3-8-11-16-1t
Sandra reports cmd rate wrong..
Yep 2.85 max vdimm...1.85 max vcore

Good jobs! Tnx all my m8! :toast:
I have ordered this mobo yesterday! I hope to recive it next week!

Initially my MSI Neo2 had so many problems passing Prime95 even at 220 HTT. Other tests (SuperPI 1M/8M/32M, 3DMarks) were running fine though. But I think it started to get along fine with me now. :D
Here it is running at 250 HTT sync. Not a great score but it is a good start for me for now at least.

how'd you get it ironed out. I have this board waiting for me at home tonight. Would like to know what you didd to get higher htt stable
-
Hi,
H20 I have a similar setup.
Can you explain to me all youre bios settings you made to have it prime stable at 250 htt.
For me prime 95 makes errors in less than 10 minutes at 240 htt at 4 or 3 x with the cpu at 10*240 and giving the cpu 1.65v and 2.85 for the ram. My ram passes memtest at 240 without any problems.
Thanks
Mcklain

I'd like to know those settings also, mine is working properly...I'm just curious as to what all you changed.
-
I have changed so many settings now and honestly some of them don't even make sense so please don't be upset if these can't still help you:
- RAM on slot 1 and 2 instead of 3 and 4.
- RAM 1T/2T Memory Timing - set it to AUTO instead of 1T even though it turned up that AUTO setting also runs 1T
- High Performance Mode - MANUAL
- Aggressive Timing - DISABLED
LOL, it seems that MSI Neo2 is much pickier about RAM than Asus A8V. So, first of all, I made sure that my RAM can really run at the expected speed by using Memtest.
I am currently using Adata DDR566 at 2.8v vDIMM. I have tested both sticks can run Memtest 12+ hours error free at 250 HTT. At 260 HTT, MemTest reported 2 errors in 12 hrs run. I even managed to find the limit of each stick in single channel (270 and 267). I am thinking to get a replacement for the worse stick now.
I just started testing 260 HTT 2.5-3-3-6 (probably need to be relaxed a bit). StressCPU, SuperPI, 3DMark are all running fine but more tests (Prime95) to be performed still.

Hi,
Thanks H20 for the settings. I will try setting the clock cycle to auto instead of 1 t.
I have an fx-53. What about youre voltages on the cpu and also what htt multiplier are you using to have it prime stable at 250. Cause what I am having trouble is getting prime stable a 10*240 (so the processor is at stock speed).
Thanks

My setting for vCore is 1.65v for 10x250 and HT freq is 4x (rule of thumb is to keep HT Ratio x HTT <= 1000). At 250, I can run Prime95 for 12+ hrs without error.
System is now running at 10x260 sync with RAM timing of 2.5-4-3-6. Prime95 has been running for 2+ hours now. Let's see if this works out fine.
