okay my english is not the best one, i hope you can understand me.
i want to build a ams 939 overclockingsystem with bh-5 ram.
so i can get now a asus 939 board but is it the right board for clocking?
and my other question is about :
is the system worths one's salt, i have at the moment an amd 1700+@230*11 and my super is @40-41 sec.
so i think when there is more no permonce it is lots of money.
but whats up with the 64 big windows is then the cpu very fast?

If you are going for the FX53 S939, yes. The ASUS is probably the best board available now. If you are just looking at the 3500+ or 3800+, then I'd suggest looking at S754 and the 3700+.
64-bit Windows probably won't bring a performance boost to begin with. The main benefit is that A64 is the only desktop chip that's capable of such at the moment, though there isn't much to brag about yet...
I have a 1700+ that does about the same as yours, and to be honest, if your just playing games, its plenty powerful as long as you have a decent video card. My 9800Pro gets me about 45fps+ in FarCry 1024x768 all settings to MAX.
Now if your looking to have fun overclocking and benching, that's a whole 'nuther story. ;)

Based on my own experience don´t go to 939 socket solution for now.Wait for DFI or something else to come in stores.What comes to Asus A8V board,if you buy it from europe you ain´t gonna get working pci/agp locks.I don´t know single one Asus mobo in europe with working locks and I have been reading so many forums. What comes to 64 bit windows it´s not worth nothing at this moment.I´ts slower than 32 bit at this moment when there is so weak driver and software support to it.And microsoft just keep pulling the official launch of the windows xp 64 bit later and later.It´s now 2005.
hmm why is the 754 better? i think the dualchann is very good and with a working windows i think it runs very fast.
i think i will wait for dfi releases and then plese help .
754 is not better than 939 but the performance doesn´t justify the cost of the system and there ain´t just enough good mobo´s out there.It all depends if you overclock or not.Quote:

Mr freeze , you're wrong , there is another one good m/b 939 , the Gigabyte K8nsnxp 939 ; locks works fine and is able to reach 270 1:1.
the only unknown is the mosfets fiability with more than 2Vcore , with it , i scored 14378 pts 3dm03 with 3500+ and x800pro 12 pipes , just a little behind (200pts) OPP's X800Pro.
i scored 31270 a 2k1 too, with a poor 2820 mhz (3500+) and X800Pro 12P
i'll add too , it's price falls for 3500+ and 3800+ :D
I´m sorry but I am not wrong :D You just misunderstood me.I know the gigabyte,asus and abit 939 mobos.But you have to mod your board to make it really flying.And all the 939 boards are good if you don´t overclock them.That is the point and that´s it for now :toast:Quote:

Keep in mind Mr. Freeze actually has the ASUS A8V.
I'm testing it right now. The board came directly from ASUS, and I'm running an FX-53.
The FX-53 is a hell of a chip. The ASUS A8V is just plain hell! It really really really really sucks!!!! It's fairly solid with the release BIOS but X800 XT's don't like high AGP freqs, and no matter which beta BIOS I use it is totally unstable. Did I mention it sucks?
I'm testing the Gigabyte this weekend. I won't be vmodding it though. I think as long as the Gigabyte is not modded the mosfets should hold up. DO NOT BUY THE ASUS A8V!!! Remember, I am a huge ASUS fanboy. The original K8V was great! The SK8V is f__king brilliant! The A8V?:down:

yes , of course the giga needs mods to perform very well , and i repeat again : when you set your vcore at 1,84v in idle you were at 1,94v in full.
with nf3 150 when you set 1,94v idle you had 1,90-92v in full.
On every NF3 250 , when you set your vcore in idle you ll have +0,1v in full.
Useless to put 1,9v idle if your name is not OPP ;)
i never have problem with 1,84v idle , same with 1,95v but useless.

errm, me = asus a8v, one of the first in europe, a 3500+ and straight to 260Mhz fsb, not 1:1 due to only having bh-5 at the moment. Got a ocz mem booster on the way. I have NO issues runnign 2.8Ghz on very plain watercooling, running 250Mhz plus htt speeds, also running the 5x multi on htt. Also x800 pro and 3d stable, been there since i had it. GREAT mobo.
I saw nothing but complaining about teh first nf2's and lack of 200Mhz stable, the first 754's and lack of high fsb, first 939's and same issues. Yet a lot of people don't havev those issues, get high stable speeds overclocks and no issues at all.
Sure the bios is quirky, not had a more quirky board than my shuttle 754, got rid of it, no trouble overclocking it just prefered my gigabyte. WHich i got as it came out, did 300Mhz htt + fully stable with no mods.
How the hell do people complain about these boards.
The gigabyte board is "probably" the board to buy if you're getting it right now, as the ocz mem booster will give 3.6v on the mem, which should let EB users get stupidly high 1:1 speeds, me probo around the 265Mhz mark with bh-5.
DFI board might be worth teh wait, but like a bunch of people do i'm chopping and changing boards constantly.
Also, still gotta do more testing, but 12v line was dropping, 99% sure (looking at temps and stability) that i couldn't go further, done some brief testing with a better psu and got further, but was just a quick test. When i switch the ocz into the case properly i'm sure higher speed will be possible
That is all on a completely unmodded board.
also, there is simply no reason to buy a 3700+ , i've completely ignored it, it's a newcastle, you simple gain performance with dual channel when comparing newcastles.
how on earth can you complain saying 939 is not worth the performance/price, when a 3700+ is quite a bit more than a 3500+ and will clock the same, but one will have more performance from dual channel. I can't see any logic there at all. If you were to even think about a 754 its only even remotely worth it if you can find a 3200 or 3400 clawhammer.

Well I guess Drunkenmaster is the one chosen by God to get the only "working" A8V on the planet. The rest of us were not so lucky. And what BIOS are you using???

The 3700+ is an FX-53 with a locked multiplier and single channel controller. Other than that they are identicle.
any ETA on the DFI board? im really wanting to go 64, but im waiting on DFI
hmm, tbh i was gonna check, i couldn't understand the pricing of the 3700 + as a none clawhammer, but also know amd wanna phase out 1mb cache on 754 so 939 512 is a decent jump.
EIther way, its still most places i look £200 more than 3500+ which makes it very much not worth teh cash. Dual channel will beat the 1meg in areas and the 1meg will win in some. From what i've seen, between my 3200+ claw, 3400+ claw, then the 3500+ i upgraded to the 3500+ is just more responsive, better in most situations, my a8v is better than all my 754 boards (unmodded) and is, IMHO, just plain better. THis was(sold both 754's) at about 2.65Ghz on each of the 754's. Newer chip helps for sure on teh clocking front, but even when i've clocked it down a bit (36C in my room right now) it still feels more responsive.
Also have far less issues with 512mb sticks of bh-5 on the k8t800pro than the non pro and the nf3 150's.
It's all in your mind buddy. The Clawhammers are quicker in almost everything than the Newcastles, DC or not.
Also, the DFI is not completely without issues. It needs a new BIOS really bad. It looks promising though. I wish ASUS and DFI would finish their S939 NF3 Pro 250 boards!

No, it's like saying the 3700+ is closer to the FX-53 than the 3800+ because they have the same Clawhammer core, even though CPUz identifies the S939 FX as a Sledgehammer. The 3700+ and S939 FX-53 are Clawhammers. Only the 940 pin chips are true Sledgehammers.
asus board well, i like it but still its asus, won't have the best voltages and really aren't too into tuning for highest speeds. Dfi i think is what we're all waiting for. THough, you'd think epox would be bringing something soon(no idea if they are or not).
The dfi is probably finished, its all bios work now so that shouldn't be an issue i wouldn't think. That will be done by release. I just wanna know the time diff between the 754 and 939 boards. but the gigabyte and ocz booster will easily do till then
I'm going to go ahead and say that if I said that you said that saying the 3700+ is the same as a fx53 minus the dual channel, is also the same as saying "they aren't the same" is really saying that your statements aren't the same, but since my statement is the same in reality both chips are the same minus the dual channel and multies.
