I'm might be wrong but I don't think there's a good C Series stepping. They are all D0 stepping I bieleve(Mine is a D0 stepping).
Your knowledge of hardware estonishes me everytime.Quote:

"C" is the shortcut for Northwood like it is "E" for prescott cpu's.
@ Peen, SL6WU is absolut perfect but there are some newer ones, but ive sene some SL6WU hit 3,9 at air.. so I would go for one of those..
D1 (AEP) mobile chips are simply the best :D
http://mbnet.fi/elixir/P4-Ident.jpg
3.0C D1 (AEP): SL78Z, SL6WE, SL6WU (not all of them)
yep SL6WU 30 capper or SL6WK 30 capper or not...they seem to overclock very well...
u cant just say THIS specific FPO or batch is the best though cos as we all know not all cpus are the same even with the same FPO/Batch
what about the new SL7 ones?
how did u kill the P4? and yea the 7's should be good too
Peen, you know by now, Luck is the biggest factor, however just like everyone said, except WonderDUNCE, to max your chances, grab the 30 cap WU,WK, or SL7.. Buy from Fry's, 15 day dud policy is worth a few extra pieces of coin....
ya i know its luck but my god it seems like the WK's do 4ghz on water easy :slobber:
My SL6WK 3.0 goes 4ghz on water at 1.65v
30 cap? i want something like that, 4ghz water :slobber:
always seems the SLWK's do best
the best way is to buy it from a member , if you want a certain stepping. Otherwise, it's luck. M0 and D1 are the best. SL6WU is good.
I've had SL6WU (12 Caps), SL6WK (30 Caps), SL78Z (30 Caps).
The SL6WU L348A was the worst of the lot doing 3.6GHz on air 1.6v.
The SL6WK L348A did 3.75GHz @ stock volts on air, 4.15GHz on PhCh
The SL78Z L349B did 3.75GHz @ stock volts on air, never got it into the PhCh unfortunately.
And now my 2.8C SL6Z5 seems to be suffering from GNDS, it just aint stable no more at 3.6GHz..hell it aint stable @ 3.0GHz at all....*sigh*
My 3.0 does not have the 30 caps but over clocks higher then my 3.4 which does have them.
#11
Yes, 30 cap.
Doess anyone know if a Malay week 44, 2003 3.2Ghz has any potential?
Have a chance to possibly buy one at a good price. Previous owner said it done 3.6GHz with the default cooler but didn't bother pushing it further.
Doesn't know what stepping/capacitor count as I assume it's still installed in his system.
Will be Zalman 7000cu cooled.
Really want a 3 or 3.2Ghz as my OCZ 3500EB do 250mhz at 3-2-3-8. Fancy some 1:1 clocking.
heres a thread on my new SL6WK 30 caps

Seems like hardly anyone has one of these (eg SL78Z). Are they rare?Quote:

the SL78Z are OEM samples, you can't buy them in a regular shop. Maybe you've got a friend / relative that works in a shop that can help you?
I've got a great SL6WU 30 capper with pack date 04/22/04 that does 3.9 on WC with 1.55v. I've had 2 other 3.0's before this one, the first one i screwed when removing the IHS, and the second one wasn't a good OC'er.
In other words, it's always luck when you buy a new CPU. You don't know what's inside the box until you open it.
Good luck!
Perhaps in Europe or the US, but I can assure you that the SL78Z I picked up here in Singapore was from a brick & mortar shop. Hell, they had about 10 pieces of them in this one shop and a couple in two other shops I checked out.Quote:

However, since then(about a month plus back) I havent seen any new SL78Zs for awhile, saw a few SL78Ys for about a week before that sold out too.
Sin22: How's the SL7** CPU's doing?
Well the SL78Z (3.0C) got up to 3.81GHz on stock volts stock HSF.
Was definitely better than my previous SL6WK L348A which also did 3.75GHz on stock volts. Max was 4.2GHz in my PhCh.
Never got the chance to dump it back into the PhCh before I sold it to try another 2.8C M0. I would approximate at least 4.3Ghz in a PhCh rig for the SL78Z.
ok, let's see, where do I get hold of one :)
You could probably onsell these to fans in Europe and the U.S.Quote:

I just got a 3.0c SL6WK made in Costa Rica 12 caps.
In my custom water cooled rig is Prime stable at 3.7/1.55V. 3.85/1.65V. Load temps are approx 42C. I didn't try more than 1.7V but it looks like these are average performance.
Should I keep it or use Fry's awesome return policy and get another one?
