Mobile-xp2500

Just looking for a confirmation here... I noticed at newegg that they had the mobile 2400 as 1.45 volts and the 2500 was listed at 1.25 volts. I assume that is a typo, I can't find any information elsewhere that doesn't say 1.45..but just for the sake of extiquishing any glimmer of excitement over the idea, typo or not?

The price difference between the 2400 and 2500 is enough to make me want the 2400, I understand that both of great potential..but if the 2500 has really droped in voltage at all then I would pay the difference to check it out.

Well they both are 1830~ and both have 512kb cache, only thing "bad" about the mobiles is that they are 133FSB which may be the crucial difference between a mobile barton and a regular barton.
But the mobiles are much better for overclocking and produce much less heat ;)

AFAIK, Mobile Barton 2500+ run at 1.9GHz with a 133MHz FSB. But as the multipliers are unlocked and they have such a low default voltage they generally overclock better than a regular desktop Barton.

/me wants to sell barton and get mobile barton jsut for the oc cause :D

If i were you, i would spend the couple extra bucks and get the 2500. If you get lucky and get a super stepping you'll be very happy with it. I run mine 24/7 at 2600MHz w/1.8v with watercooling. I was playing with it last night.. I got it to boot and run memtest86 at 3000MHz with 2.2v and 70*f water. These things are awsome!

I am looking for a successor to my XP 1700 which is why i'm looking at the mobile bartons. I have one of the xp 1700s that operated at 1.5v instead of 1.6 volts and finding a cpu that can outperform it has been difficult..(minus the 64 bit cpus, can't afford yet). I bought a regular barton 2500 only to find out that it was locked up tight and it operated at 1.65 volts default. Very dissapointing, considering what I can do with my 1700.

Last night i got the 1700 using my 8rda3 mb up to 230fsb, and was able to 3dmark01 it at 2636mhz. (12.5 x 210). I run this cpu 24/7 at 190 x 12.5 (if you wondering why not just 200..for whatever reason, I have start pumping more voltage into the cpu at 200 fsb then I care to do 24/7..kind of a sweet spot)

So I guess my question is? Am I going to be able to use a mobile xp2400 or 2500 to beat the performance of this cpu? Or only to match it? I might as well wait until I can afford a 64bit otherwise. (making a cheaper processor do more is so much fun though

I'd say the mobiles are definitely worth the upgrade from a good 1700. Almost all mobiles will do the same speed, AND have twice the L2 cache :)
Mine runs ~2.7 /w 1.85v and produces very little heat :)

Thats a nice fsb Crimedog (255), thats what I bought my dfi board for right there. And at 1.85v..thats awesome. I have to pump my 1700 with 2.0v to really get the high numbers. 2400 mhz with a 190 fsb is the sweet spot for it voltage wise. 1.725 or so for that speed..anything higher and voltage needs jump. My slk-900u won't fit on my dfi board though, so i'm waiting to buy swiftech watercooling, then I won't hve to worry about this darn heatsink not fitting. (capicitors were to close to cpu on dfi)

I just recieved my 2400+ yesterday. Havent played with it much, but i have gotten it to 2468mhz (235 x 10.5 1.8vcore), which gave me 20k in 3dmark. This board can do 250fsb so i will try 250x10. But I do think it feels much smoother than my 1700+. The extra cache really makes a difference... i have found apps to open up faster...boot times go down a bit....just overall feels better. If you sold your 1700+ for around 40$ then the 2400+ would only cost you 37$ :).

I wonder when mobile a64's will come out :D
