P4P800 droop mod is a must!

This mod is a MUST for anyone who is serious about clocking their processor on this board.

I performed the droop mod on my P4P800. I didn't have a 50K variable, but everyone seems to think about 28K is the best setting... So, I grabbed a 30k resister (actual resistance was 29.5k due to tolerance) and soldered it between the two spots for the droop. My vCore voltage is now ROCK SOLID. I have it set to 1.625, and at this setting it's 1.68 Idle, and under a full cpu load, it's 1.64! AWESOME... and on top of that, at 3750 Mhz the processor still under a load only reaches 40 C, and idles @ around 30 C...There's a bit of an offset between what MBM 5 says and what my bios says... the bios reads about 3-4 degrees higher, but even so, that's not bad. Can you believe I'm using a CoolerMaster Aero4 for the CPU? Can't wait till I do something better for cooling.

BTW, is this mod will gain few Mhz more ?? For examples 275 FSB is 98% stable but 270 FSB is 100% stable.

As far as gaining speed... Well, it made my system more stable at higher clock speeds. Before, my voltage was all over the place when my system was running @ 3750... now, it doesn't move nearly as much. So, I suppose allowing you to run more reliably @ higher speeds is an increase depending on how you look at it.

Sorry to crush your dreams, but Asus shows 15c - 20c degrees too low temps, so your cpu is probably way up 40c degrees, real.
You cant have those temps even with room temperature watercooling and definately not on air...

Have you got any more details as to why you say this? I'd love to read about it. Maybe some links that would prove your theory?

The CPU heatsink cool to the touch. Tell you the truth, the Northbridge heatsink gets warmer than the heatsink for the processor. That temp is an idle temp also, the computer is just sitting there not doing anything.

I'll be looking forward to the proof you provide though, as I am always willing to learn something new.

Anyone else have any input on this?

Asus boards are 15-20c off, huh? In comparison to what... Abit? Who says they're right? Who says anyone's is? Do they have a NIST Traceable thermocouple on the core monitoring it?

So, if what this review is saying is correct, then NO CPU temp readings on ANY board is accurate due to the different ways that differnet companies calculate it. If you ask ASUS, then they'll say theirs is accurate... If you ask Abit, they'll say theirs is... My point is, as Mark Twain once said "If you have 2 clocks, you'll never know what time it really is."....

I do know this, my temps are in-line with people with similar configuations, and I'm not seeing any adverse effects so I'll keep running like it is.... I must admit though, I WAS a bit suspicious of how a CoolerMaster Aero4 could keep that processor that cool. But then again, I have some serious airflow in my case and I keep the room at about 72-75 F (22-24C)... But even still...

I can vouch from my own experience that the ASUS mobos read the CPU temp wrong. I did somparison at work between 8knxp ic7 and p4c800 and gues who was missing 14C off the CPU temps?? The ASUS board. Even my ASUS at home is lying and trying to get better cooling now.

I'm not saying ASUS is correct, I just wonder what is? I've heard that in other places as well. But Who's to say other boards aren't making the calculation correctly as well? I also noticed that Motherboard Monitor reads lower than the bios... so now what? I guess there's no real way of knowing for sure, other than overkill on the cooling or getting away from air all together so it won't matter... Haven't decided to go with a watercooled or prommie rig yet, but I may in the future... as long as this doesn't present any performance problems for me, I'm ok. And if it does decide to meltdown, that's a risk we all take by overclocking in the first place... kind of a gamble.. I love it.

Now, back to the subject of the thread, which we so seem to have gotten away from, I just wanted to tell people if they haven't done the vCore mod, then they should definately consider doing so. Best thing I've done yet I think. :)

A good way to tell what your cpu's temp really is (without a probe taped to the edge of the core) is to take off the back panel of your case and stick your finger through the motherboard tray's hole and get your little finger right on the back of the cpu. If it's too hot to hold there for more than 5-10 seconds, then you know it's HOT on the other side too. :cool:

I have already both mods: VDimm and VCore Droop stablity mod. Also I made the BigToe's Dual flash Bios Mod to enabled PAT over 200FSB. Still, I don't test the VCore Vmod. Taking advantage of that I have the MoBo outside I'm installing some Heatsinks to the mosfet and PLLs.

Droop mode rules and I dont know how I've live without it. :D
My vcore earlier was all over the place from 1.62 going down to 1.56. Now, 1.63 to 1.60.

I must say though I did loose the lower vltage settings, ie. 1.55-1.60. They are there in the BIOS but minimal I get is 1.60. Who cares though... it rocks anyway :rocker:

Yes, I did indeed try Bigtoe's mod, and I didn't have any luck. Looked like all was going well, and the last time I restarted, it wouldn't boot. I tried clearing the CMOS several times, and everything else I could think of, to no avail. So, I swapped the motherboard out and got another one... (That kinda sucked, because I had to undo the mods I had done, clean them up so they weren't noticable, and then re-mod the new board...)

I figured after that, I'd leave it alone. ;)

im on p4p800 as well and my vcore is everywhere at 250fsb, psu rails are solid. does radio shack carry 30k variable resistors ?

about the asus thing. cpu idle - 28c cpu load - 36c at 250fsb. Vantec aeroflow air cooler. Dont really care if its accurate as long as its consistent, back panel off as someone suggested and i touched the back of the mobo and it wasnt hot. :D

has anyone played around with the resistors a bit?
here everyone says 28kOhm. i used 36kOhm as I read it somewhere. my results are a bit worse (1,56-1,6) but the EE takes a lot of voltage.
do you thing 28kOhm would improve my voltage?

28k is best ...u can do higher upto around 50k ...but most say 28k performs best (dont go below 25k or.....:explode: ) nah jk ...but dont do below 28k to be safe. get a VR so u can play around.

i just did this mod today.. first time ive ever soldered anything onto a point so small. i did it perfect and my vcore is a lot more stable, i gained about 100mhz on the overclock. very good mod :)

i forgot to say.. i used a 100k vr from radioshack to set to 28k.

OK I already tested it.

However, I have doubts...

Before the mod only reached 254FSB with 1.825. Now I can reach 255 with 1.775.

Before the mod and with default VCore(1.550V) I reached 240FSB. Now, I can reach 247FSB with the Droop Mod.

When I select 1.55VCore in the BIOS, I read 1.600V~1.616 in CPU-Z/Asus Probe.

My CPU temps Full is 32°C.

now... I'm increasing the FSB to 256, I dont know
if to raise it, because I have to select 1.800VCore.

This VDroop Mod is an overvoltage, to compensate the Droop, right?... So if I select 1.800VCore, Which is the real VCore...??

What is the top VCore for SL6WK.

It is WaterCooled RBX + Dual HeaterCore

Put your heatsink and cpu on another motherboard. Then you will see the jump in temperature.,

CPU temp will alway's be greater than Air temp / Case temp

+ generated heat load

If you find your heatsinks C/w rating e.g 0.25C/W being top range
heatsink.

and take your CPU watts e.g 80W

and do Following... CW * watts = Delta

Ambient room Temp + Delta = CPU Die temp @ rated Watts.


So if your heatsink is 0.25 your running full load of 80w
then you have a Delta of 20

If your room is say 18 deg then 18 + 20 = CPU temp i.e. 38deg

I was wondering about if I can make it any more stable of a droop than it is now. It idles at 1.696 and load is 1.680-1.640. I set it to 28k, has anyone tried any other resistances that do better? I tried upping my 12v line but it didn't help. Anyone have any idea if there is a way to have rock solid? :D

Will this mod work with the Asus p4p8x

If the board layout is the same, no reason it shouldnt.
