i need help deciding on a Graphics Card!

so heres my goal, to have a computer able to play BF3/Crysis on absolute max settings DX11 etc with a smooth frame rate at all times! I plan on using a single monitor 1080p 1920/1080 Res.
Im somewhat new to the PC gaming scene and thought this would be a great place to ask for help. heres what im thinking of so far, tell me what u guys think. the only thing im unsure about is the Graphics card. im looking to buy the best possible single monitor graphics card for nothing more then 400$

You could pick up a superclocked edition for $10 more (even has free shipping). It would get you that much closer to the performance of a GTX 580.

the processor is already shipped so im gonna have to live with it. i didnt realize it was overkill, what do u guys think about this?

For BF3 max settings you need 7970 GFX.. I'd really recommend to not buy anything else if you want fun now, the 7970 is what you need. Save 100$ on going out or anywhere else and put it in 7970.. Or buy midrange now and wait for kepler when the 7970 price may drop, but max settings wont run on 570 or 6790 or even less...

im gonna try to cut down on other parts to afford the 580, when it comes to a playing session on a game like BF3 OR Crysis 2 maxed out, what would the differences be between the overclocked 570 u linked and a 580?

i think 7970 >> 580 or superclocked 570...

alright thank you all, ill do everything i can to get the 7970, is the processor i have picked out really necessary? i see someone had linked an alternative, what would you all recommend if im trying to cut down on
other things to afford this card without sacrificial performance

Actually you are sacrificing ~15% gaming performance from FX-8150 vs say a 2500K anyway.

The older Phenom II sometimes beats the newer FX series in gaming, even the quad cores (Phenom II X4 975-980) do in some games.

I play this game exclusively.

Also for the same price you can get a 2500k cpu, and a good p67/z68 mobo, that will put the BD to shame. It does not make since to go AMD unless your just a fan.

the 570 is a bad choice, it dose not have enough vram and the ones with double ram cost way to much, and for bf3 the 6970 is better than a 580, and i could play crysis 2 mostly maxed out (i disabled blur) on a 4890 so that is not a game that graphics cards matter anymore. i would check for used parts u can get a 69xx for about $250 right now


and the bulldozer is not overkill its overpriced, u could have gotten a better gaming chip with a 2500 and that is almost $100 cheaper, the BD is really slow and its not really an 8 core its a 4 core with 8 threads. the thulban chips like the 9xx with a T or the 1090/1100 are even faster than the BD

taking a 960T could save some money and you could update later to Piledriver-based /(next gen AMD, will arrive for desktop in fall 2012 maybe) processor if it is actually better (AM3+ Socket is supposed to live at least 1-2 years from now).

A 2500k Sandy Bridge is a very good gaming processor tho, even if that socket will die out this year.

1155 will get the IB and then that is staying until h2 2013, the only difference from SB to IB is the change to pci-e on a platform lvl and that is still electrically identical to pci-e 2.

and the BD is just slow, the 960 would be quicker.

Solid advice!

If max settings matter, get a 7970. You can skip the water set for the time being.

HD6950/HD6970 2GB should handle quite well without "Ultra" setting

Just a suggestion that really needs to be backed up, as I haven't experience with any of these boards:
Instead of that M4A89TD, a more up to date AM3+ GA-990FXA-UD3 as it costs the same. Bios stability should dictate the choice anyway.

Maybe, so get an Intel and an 7970 for max Settings :)

An overclocked 960T would not hold back a 7970 in BF3.

Pffft, the masses have already spoken. You can't play games on AMD chips!!!! Even if they get the same FPS as Intel chips at high resolutions. :rolleyes:

Thuban @ 4ghz is a gaming beast. Dont listen to the Intel Fanboi's in the AMD Forum again... By the time you leave everything at ultra settings or near CPU difference will be mute. Graphic cards and graphic settings are where FPS are and probably will be for some time.

I dont understand why do u even consider anything else then a 2500k for gaming at this moment, decent Z68 board, 8GB ram, an SSD ( m4 for example ), 7970 or the 570 depending on ur budget,noctua NH-D14/TR SA, for a psu i would reccomend a seasonic X series, case is really matter of ur choice.

my thulban is going strong undervolted at 3.6, and u can get a nice amd chip for about $100, and the 570 needs more vram and the 580 costs to much so going NV right now is a bad idea.

Getting back on topic i'd wait for the 7950's to come out in mass.
