AMD Gains on Intel in x86 Chip Market: Mercury Research

well at least that is good news for amd. hopefully they dark ages are over for them and they can become intels equal....in terms of market share.

Looking around in Shops it appears as most of the gain was in the Mobile Market.

That is true ... but AMD was down in revenue QoQ while Intel was up QoQ, AMD gained unit share but lost revenue share. What we are seeing, IMHO, is the full effect of Brazos, it will take a good full quarter to see how much Llano impacts the share numbers.

Well, that's what they are saying but Intel's revenue went
up due through the inclusion of McAfee and Infinion Wireless.
not due to processor sales.

AMD gained share in Mobile and Desktop, both in Units and
Revenue, during Q2 while it lost in Server Units/Revenue.
AMD's Mobile revenue went up ~20% quarter on quarter.

Interesting numbers.. ontario seems to have only very mild influence at the atom salles.. I wonder where those untis come from. A complet chart with other cpus would be nice to have.

i think that ontario did more damage to low end C2 CULV than to Atom

seems so, intel mobile went down 2000 kunits, amd mobile went up 700 kunits. more specific numbers would be awesome to see though

Yep, this certainly has the possibility of being true. This would be somewhat surprising, I would not have thought Infineon or McAfee to contribute quite so large to make the 13.1 Bill.

Edit: Atom v Ontario, it would be ludicrious to not assume Intel will lose some (a lot ) of atom share to Ontario, by way of netbook market, since AMD just entered with a counter product. It will be interesting to see how that market plays out, the volume is high but, relatively speaking, revenue is low... I am wondering if within a few years time if that market is basically abandoned since there are now huge forces tugging it apart -- i.e. a new, more than competitive product from AMD, Intel as a waining incumbent, and the tablet effect pretty much squeezing it from all directions.

Not Ontario, Zacate -- AMD bulls eyed that product right in the major gap between Atom and CULV with Zacate, Ontario (the 9 W part) is the head to head Atom competitor.

Now around 70% of mobile shipments from AMD is Zacate / Ontario and the margin from this die (77mm^2 / 40nm TSMC) is better than the mobile Phenom II family (169mm^2 / 45nm SOI) by a large amount.

But in the head start of Llano, the low ASP (~$70/60 for 4/2 cores) is alarming.

It isn't the full effect of Brazos I think, it is very poor available in Europe. Asus starts selling the 1215B in the beginning of September (in The Netherlands), as more Fusion laptops manufactures. Currently only the Lenovo Thinkpad x121e and some 15" models for MSI are available.
