BSOD 0x0124 - 2500k AsRock Z68 Pro-M 16GB GSkill Ripjaw 1600 WIn7 Pro x64

i keep randomly, whether the system is working or idle but 99% of the time it is when the system has been idle, get a BSOD "0x0124 Unrecoverable Hardware Failure."
google is yielding various results saying CPU vcore needs to be raised or vdimm needs to be raised.

vdimm is 1.56v
vcore is 1.31 under load.

i can run intel burn in test, prime95 and memtest all day and never get an error, but for some reason the minute i walk away from my PC, and come back, i come back to a BSOD 0x0124....

anyone got any ideas?????
any other voltage settings that are prone to cause this error?

0x124 = increase/decrease QPI/VTT first, if not increase/decrease vcore...have to test to see which one it is

do you use fixed or offset voltage? In case of the latter one I had the same problem. It's due to the fact that while using only one core the voltage is much lower than 1.31V (probably about 1.2V). You need to increase your vcore so that while using only one core vcore doesn't drop to the level when you see a bsod.

x124 is vcore primarily isnt it? Only older processors it was QPI.


It could be a problem with the voltage in idle. My first motherboard and CPU had that problem. No matter what voltage I gave it, even 1.4 under load at stock speed, I would still get a BSOD with 124 error code at random when idle. It came down to primarily a faulty motherboard, but also seemed something was messed up with how the processor was downclocking itself.

Does the CPU clock down ? I indeed vouch for either a higher Vcore, solved all of my personal 0124 issues.. Vcore dropped under 1 volt at 1600mhz, which my CPU didn't like at all

For older gen cpus x58 p55 0x124 is qpi/vtt. On p67 it is mainly vcore or qpi/vtt. with 16gb ram have you increased qpi/vtt at all from stock? I would start there then raise vcore.

the CPU VTT was at auto and was only 1.051v. so i raised it to 1.059v <-- i have no idea what is safe for a new i5 2500 cpu's so i didnt go crazy on the voltage.
but i also dropped he clocks to 4.5ghz instea of 4.6ghz.
no blue screens all evening.

and my cpu also drops below 1v at 1.6ghz, more like 0.9X volts.

i will keep you posted but what is safe for the CPU VTT on these chips?
the voltage option range is HUGE so i am not sure where to put it.

and yes i do use the offset voltage method.
with loadline calibration at level 3 so as not to work the pwm area and create even more heat.

I dont know how the asrock boards are reacting to qpi/vtt but gigabyte boards dont like 1.2+ so I would say keep it under 1.2v

it was at the lowest voltage option when set to auto, it did not increase it a bit until yesterday and then that was only 2-3 voltage steps which equalled a whopping 0.04v so yeah i have a lot of headroom with that setting.
funny though that the board did not increase the voltage given the overclock i was running.

What I don't understand is, which one fixed the issue?
1. is it the increased VTT?
2. or the decreased clocks?

can you run 4.6GHz without BSODs with the new VTT? or can you run 4.5GHz with old VTT? can u check? i'm facing the same problem and i don't know what is causing the issue. >_<

It was the CPU VTT that did it. I only raised it 1 or 2 steps.

4.5ghz old vtt
4.6ghz new vtt

You are using Firefox 4, 5 ? Have you ATI and drivers 11.x? If yes then disable hardware acceleration on Firefox and report back.
Have same issue but it is software related either ATI or Firefox's fault.

I run an 870, and I get 124s all the time because of my ram. It's been degrading since day one, at first it was 200 pass linx stable at 2000mhz 8-8-8-18 at 1.5v, now it blue screens at 2000mhz 8-8-8-24 1.6v. I replaced the ram with a similar Elpida Hyper kit, and had the same story. CPU is rock stable.

Don't rule out your ram.

Xm, solution does not work for me either. So, i fall back to CPU or Ram settings/voltages.

For P67 / Z68, for "normal" overclocks don't exceed;

vDIMM: 1.65v
VTT: 1.2v
vcore: 1.38v
VCCIO: 1v

There shouldn't be any need to change the other voltage options.
