I can prove that Bulldozer will work in AM3 sockets

Foxconn AM3b leaked socket info shows solder joints on the back of the socket, and I'm pretty sure I can prove that as long as Bulldozer does not include a dummy pin (which literally would not have any electrical contact to the board), Zambezi will fit and according to manufacturers operate in an AM3 socket and board with just a BIOS update...

THAT IS, provided all of the required AM3 pins were soldered...

Anyone still skeptical should look at the pics I'm about to post up :up:

I said for one week ago some simillary...Again.
AM3 socket=941 pins, standartly 938 electrically active into motherboards AM3 CPUs=938pins
AM3+ socket=942 pins AM3+ CPUs=940 or 941 pins
my theory: some ASUS boards has from begining at AM3 boards (from support list) electrically active all possible conections for pins, so this is 941. Second condition is big flash rom

It's been said but not proven, just want to show some pics showing each socket and the way that AM3b is soldered compared to AM3

If correct AM3 pins were soldered as foxconn shows in the user guide then Zambezi would definately work in ALL foxconn AM3 sockets considering the AM3+ CPU does not have a pin where the key is gone in the new AM3b socket.

who cares AM3+ takes AM3 chips.
it's not like sandybridge where they went from 1156 to 1155, and don't fit each other.

Because a lot of us own AM3 boards already and don't want to spend another $250 for a board?

hm, whats better for you as overclocker? Better performance with new board or lower performance with older boards? For me its first. I like AMD and still Im hope for better days, when we will see better average performance at AMD side.
Maybe for one year ago AMD said, they have solved lower performance and AM3 socket or better performance and TDP with new socket. Think, the choice was right-better TDP and higher performance. Long time compatibility from AM2 socket was OK, but nothing will can be forever.

Most 890 boards will do 2600-3000 HT Link, a lot of them support DDR3-2000 ram or above, 890FX has support for IOMMU and they also for the most part have strong pwm.

To say that there will be "lower performance with older boards" is a gross estimation. ;)

I think, Bulldozer can 2400 MHz RAM "easily", here will be problem find so good RAMs for it :)

Let's be realistic. Most of the boards "we" buy are typically priced $150 to $200. There is no need to exaggerate here. I'll also never buy the whole argument about needing to keep a motherboard for cost reasons when we aren't regular consumers. We pay extra for top-end power supplies, RAM, chips, often even considering upgrading to just a later speed bumped model less than a year after we get one. Quibbling over a motherboard because of cost when we clearly aren't engaged in a cheap hobby and readily spend money on the seemingly more exciting parts is so artificial. The truth of the matter is that motherboards aren't very exciting compared to processors and are a pain in the butt to change. Thus, the prospect of buying new ones is often not very exciting. It made sense back in the day when a motherboard cost more than the CPU you were going to plug into it, but when that changed the sentiment of which was more painful to pay for should have as well. It never did.

Edit: Not doubting that your ram is stable, but you should use prime95, not linpack for testing ram/imc on AMD :)

Some 8 series boards suck with thuban. Got my ch3 up to 4580mhz with thuban and water. Depends entirely on the board chip and person clocking.

Personally I think this is a waste of thread space. Some boards will update some will not exactly as phenoms in am2 boards did.
