Is these relate to Server CPUs only or Desktop ones will feature TurboCore and CoolSpeed technologies too?
Just read it and even though it doesnt really give away too much detail it seems like the turbo core and cool n quiet technologies seem like they have more range now more than ever.
I wonder how long till we get to the stage of a fully variable CPU clock?
This will be available in both client and server parts.
think this will offer a unique way to overclock, like i up the voltage by .05v and modify a setting to let the TDP max out 30% higher, and let the cpu handle the rest?
i wouldnt expect it to know what is or isnt stable, but what is and isnt in the same TDP that i tell it i want
So, basically, if there is some load on the CPU, then depending on how many cores are used, we get different CPU frequency (assuming we stay within TDP)? And these are pre-set values (and not calculated on the fly based on TDP, or whatever)?
There is a base frequency and a max frequency. The processor will move between those 2 based on the workload, trying to get as high as possible, with the limit being the TDP of the processor.
Obviously, with different #'s of cores being used, you have a different range between how much power is being consumed at base - but max power remains the same.
will it jump only by multiples of 100mhz (.5x multi) or is it much more dynamic than that?
I wrote you my question on your blog :)
Thanks JF, So if im understanding this correct the new Turbo core you guys have with BD isnt like intel where its just a added multiplier, Its a boost of up to 500mhz on each core.. So it pretty much boosts the core frequency on each core until it reached the tdp ?? Am i on the same page as you guys?
read the his blog about it. Its "clear"
It's boosting clock across all 16 cores in Interlagos while they are under full load AND below the maximum TDP level. Intel's xeons have 1 speed bin boost(~100Mhz) across all cores under full load load but for limited time period.
For Bulldozer launch day I will take holiday :). Need time to readings all reviews etc :-D
