I've read many times in many places that populating the 6 dimms, especially with 4GB modules, will do all sorts of things to your overclocking ability. And none of them good :ROTF:
So, what do you think would be a decent (not record breaking ok) goal for a 24/7 overclock of an i7 950 with 24GB of ram on air, and for the ram as well?
all depends on how far you feel you wanna push qpi/vtt voltage. Its allready gotta be through the roof with 24gb ram.

"Went with 6 x 4GB DDR3-1600 from G.Skill (Ripjaw series) and it overclocks like a champ to 4.0Ghz on the MSI X58 Pro-E board with all 24GB onboard. Just did a simple 191 multipler to 4.02-ish and everything is great."
Just out of curiosity, what is your need for 24gb?

The need is about the same as the need for a quad or hex core cpu: not needed, but nice to have on occasion.
So, it looks like there's not much experience with that much ram. Most of what I've read is just theories or vague statements from those who actually have a setup like this running.

if it's not really needed, i'd go with 12 or 16 gb to make things easier to manage. i'm about to put 12gb in my system because i actually need it for 3d rendering.
I use it for simulations in matlab. That is, I might use it in the future.
In the meantime, it's sweet (or shold I say, insane) to run a VM from a ram drive.
Overclocking with 24gb ram isnt gonna be all that great tbh, gonna require massive amounts of vtt to get all 24gb to run @ the speed you want..

24gb, u see the higher the ram speed the higher ur NB "IMC" needs to be, If your going with 24gb get a speed of 1600, im not sure if u can get 2k kits but trying to get it to run @ those rated speeds would be quite hard and couldnt imagine you pulling a decent overclock on your cpu..Quote:

This screen was just to post here. I've run LinX for 18 hours using the 22GB of ram, overnight Prime 95 blend again using 22GB of ram with this setup, but never saved any screens.
Memories are Corsair XMS3 2000Mhz CL9 and this is aircooled with a Termalright Silver Arrow.
What you think? Above/below your expectations?

Yeah, I must say I wasn't expecting this either. Seems like an average overclock for the usual amounts of memory.
Judging by the voltages people seem to be using I think the limit on the cpu side are the temperatures. It's already too hot to up the voltages further.
fl0w3n, someday the curiosity will hit me, and I'll do that. But I've been testing the computer for a week and now I need to work on it :D Another problem is that 2 memory modules are covered by the Silver Arrow (4 if I count the fan which has to be placed just right to fit in the case), and are a pain to take out.
Edit: I'm also stable with x21 uncore (3760) but that needs 1.32v-1.34v, and I don't think it's worth it.
