Two GTX 580 can make almost 1M PPD!!!!
This project really does give those Fermis a great workout. The GPUgrid project guys should take note :hm:
Yeah, just when I was taking the cake you guys stomped me down...
Yeah SAM I am looking at you:mad:
Who is Chris B, by the way?
Just doing my job :rofl:
He's been lurking around.

That's nice! Seems like I need to set up my 9800GTX+ for this project..
How much points am I expected to get?
Chris B = cjbrown80... shoulda just used cjbrown80 as my ID, sorry for the confusion. I rebuilt all of my six machines over the last month or so, and as my job has been very slow lately, I've been tinkering and crunching to test overclocks, hence the rush of points so suddenly. I was rising quick on the MW@H stats, but the gtx580 and 460 in my two i7 rigs have been causing errors and abandoning WUs from MW@H so I switched everything over to PrimeGrid till I can figure it out. Any ideas? Did I miss a memo or something?
EDIT: after more poking about, I'm realizing that MW@H doesn't like anything but ATI cards currently. Got it.
Awesome, now let's lead the team for top 10!:up:
My Corsair HX1000 just died in my big machine! WTF!? It's only a month old. The HX850 in the other one I've had since last October and it's still kickin'. My numbers are gonna be way down without this rig for a few days till I can get another psu.
Heh and that's good for me :D
Naw just kidding.. What did you have on the big machine? Maybe the HX1000 can't take the juice from Primegrid. It does use 99% of the GPU.
Why the 875K @ 4.2gHz and a 580 grinding some PrimeGrid of course. It wasn't running 24/7 like my i7 920 and Q6600 rigs, which have a Hawk 460 and dual 8800GTs respectively. Before I got the 580 last week it had dual 5870s and I was just obliterating some MilkyWay, but that setup is being replaced for dual 580s. I'm so torn :shrug: between selling the 5870s to pay for the 2nd 580, or building another crunch rig around them. The Q6600/8800GT sli rig is my little 500Watt bedroom heater. It helps this time of year when it's 12 F outside in Pittsburgh.
If you are a pointwh0re, definitely go for the 580.:D Else just stay in M@H. Watch out for the heaters, I can already see my bills skyrocketing!
Most of the members of our team crunches for the cause, most of the people will put whatever they got that does not crunch GPUGrid into the other projects. But I have to say that this project is terrificly efficient.
I like PrimeGrid.... maybe cuz I'm "winning" :D (jk).
Prime numbers are a very important cause as well. They are used to improve encryption which keeps all our ones and zeros safe! Once I get the Corsair 1kW back and the second 580... look out! :slapass: Funds are available, and I think it's the first time the waterblocks are in stock, but not the cards. NewEgg said the 17th was the eta for the 580s... fail.
Yeah, let's go for the top10!
yea id love to see us in the top 10 as well
Well, we've got a long way to go. We're ranked 63rd atm with 17 million. Top 10 will be well over 150 million by the time we get near it. If we could just get a half dozen more i7 with 480 or 580 cards we'd have a shot at it for sure. Does anyone want to plead the case to some of the GPUgrid heroes?
Here's one for you DC pros. My secondary machine has a GTX460 and a GT240. I assumed the GT240 wasn't compatible with PrimeGrid since it never picked up any WUs, but after poking around on some other forums I see folks running them. My 460 gets WUs, but not the 240. I know mixed GPU systems can be silly, any ideas where I should start with this?
I don't really think that i7 will help, but Fermis certainly would..
I think the point of this project is actually for those people who has a Nvidia GPU that's not compatible with other projects to join. Something like the older gen 8 series or take me as an example, the 65nm-GTX260s.
I think I should try to recruit from GPUGRID sometime soon. :yepp:
On your trouble with the GT240:
Mixed GPUs should not even be a problem with BOINC.
First make sure you have the correct drivers for both of your cards.
If that does not work, then go to your CC_Config.xml and add this line of code:
Then go to your BOINC manager and click "read config file" under the "advanced" tab. Now update PrimeGrid.Code:<use_all_gpus>
Thx for the help. Here's what's in my CC_config.xml file in the BOINC directory:
<cc_config>
<log_flags>
</log_flags>
<options>
<use_all_gpus>
<report_results_immediately>1</report_results_immediately>
</options>
</cc_config>
Still didn't work after I updated it. Is there an "approved" driver list for all the different cards somewhere? Both my 460 and 240 are using 260.99.
Found somewhere on the interweb it should read <use_all_gpus>1</use_all_gpus> Tried it, froze BOINC. WTF?
Yeah you are right, <use_all_gpus>1</use_all_gpus> is the right way.
This is my CC_Config file, try using that:
If that doesn't work, I think you should ask in the Primegrid forums. Those people are pretty helpful there.Code:<cc_config>
<options>
<report_results_immediately>1</report_results_immediately>
<use_all_gpus>1</use_all_gpus>
</options>
</cc_config>
Good luck!:up:
Thx, got a post over at PG message board, awaiting help. In the meantime, how about this- My GTX580 is an MSI, so naturally I've been waiting for another MSI to come in stock at newegg, even though they're all reference at thispoint and I could SLI multiple vendors, I'd prefer not to. Well, that product has been deactivated on neweggs web site and when I looked a little more, it seems MSI is discontinuing that part and releasing a slightly overclocked version of it to replace the original reference part. I'm assuming it has just a different bios, but wtf? Obviously for SLI you want two identical cards, so hopefully if I end up getting a newer version for my 2nd one, I'll be able to put the newer OC bios on my original one. Sometimes these manufacturers make me want to slap someone in the head.
Dang, that was a pain in the arse. I had to unistall BOINC and then manually search C: for any files with BOINC in the name, delete the pre-fetch files, restart, and re-install boinc. It fired right up, and continued with my work units where it left off yesterday. Thank the lawd! Check out the hrs I have into some of thoce CPU WUs. That would have been a pile of wasted electrons.
