Lets take a look @ Corsair's AX 1200

I just got this not to long ago. Just found the time to unbox it now.

Figured I would snap some pics while I was at it and go over some thoughts.

In no way would I consider this a review, those can be best done by those qualified, johnny guru comes to mind and I believe he has a review on this particular unit so you can check that out for technical details.

I will however try to beat the snot out of it over this week in vantage with thuban + 2x 5970 and gulftown 3x gtx 480 .cfgs and take wattage draw readings via killawatt.

Once you get through the outer package it's clear corsair tried to keep it simple and well packed.

As we see here Corsair is still using the felt bag they include with there high end PSU's, although a nice touch the bag is not necesary.

I like the fact that it has a power switch, Almost forgot what one of those were.

Modular, well I would personally prefer hard wired 24pin, 4+4 CPU and PCI-E but I'm sure this will go over well with the case modding crowd.

I would have liked to have seen all cables sleeved seeing as they already did it with half of the cables provided.

All in all it's a nice unit and i can't wait to give it a spin this week to see what it can handle.

I wish someone would make a power supply with nice, tight sleeving that looks as pro as a custom job. Why oh why do all sleeve jobs look sloppy? :(

Because a proper custom sleeve job takes time and effort, thus a LOT of money.

Yes, yes...I know. Next PC I'm building, I'm going FrozenCPU single braid sleeving. It's really expensive ($400), but it should be worth it.

the box looks dead boring and cheap, and so does the psu and cable set...
looking forward to see whats under the hood :D

Awesome psu but i totally agree with you about the sleeving, if your gonna sleeve 60% of the cables atleast do the rest :)

Yes, cause I have the skill and patience to sleeve an entire 1200W power supply...if you know of anybody/anyplace that can do it better and cheaper, please tell me.

Yeah looks nice, and custom sleeving is $2.50 a wire. So how much would that be for this power supply?

already sent mine back through RMA. Made a horrible high frequency pitch squealing sound, honestly deafening. Corsair's RMA is top notch though, gotta give Yellowbeard some props, he was on it like white on rice.

yea i like the on/off switches, i was dissapointed when i got my antec that is didn't have one...
guess i was spoiled, so i hung it off it's own powerstrip...

Going to see if I can throw a few OS's together and might bench the thuban/2 x 5970 rig tonight, have 30 liters. Maybe I will livestream if if i can get my livestream to work again.

It should be interesting as I was peaking over 1200w at blackops with 2 5870 and 1 5970 with a 6 gig cpu OC and ocing the cards hindered.

Not sure how long I will run it like that as I personally prefer to half load PSU's as thats where they are most effecient but we will give it a proof of concept run before I swap to a daisy chained setup.

More importantly for me I will be checking 24 pin connector for heat as one of my other single rail units has been getting hot lately with thuban even when daisy chained.

I'm just a little sad this unit didn't become available earlier. Oh well, i'm sticking with my seasonic x-750 until I need more powah!

It's chewing up 2x 5970s right now on thuban no issues.

Unfortunately my killawatt has failed though.
