I think the answer is yes... every time there's a new 3DMARK, everyone always starts benching...
i'd count on it
im deffinatly waiting for 3dmark 11 to get some dx11 gpu's :D
I havent even run vantage yet, too lazy to bother getting a key.
I wonder HOW multi-threaded '11 will be... will 980X rule the roost? or high gHz dual cores or i7's?
Im with STEvil, have barely benched Vantage, but im definitely keen to try this one
lol the vantage key is in the bundle of every hardware :D
I can't overemphasize how BIG for the hobby 3DMK01 and 03 were... we had TONS of people running benches and posting results on XS, it was a BIG deal.
We need that kinda' "everyone's doing it" feeling again... this place will be hoppin'
But that was a different day... one could make it to the first page with skill and some over the counter parts. Nowadays it's ES gear and corporate bencher's... with a couple trays of 980X's and GPU's...
And then there were the sub-class competitions. We had groups of people competing with mid-range cards and the competition was fierce!!!
Ahhhhh... the good ole days.
GET OFF MY LAWN!!!!!!!!
Yeah I remember when benching around here was a lot bigger back then...when we all used 8x AGP cards and TECS were being used to break records :D
I just hope it will be a real 3D benchmark, which lays more weight on actual VGA performance than cpu processing power.
Nowadays it just seems it's all about the cpu. Even for Vantage you'll need a extremly good cpu (or even 2 of them) to be able to make some kind of record.
Im my oppinion they may even remove the hole cpu-test. If person A can run his GTX480 on 1100 core, and person B just runs 1000mhz core, but stil gets the highest score because of high cpu clocks or multiple cpu's.... there's something wrong. A 3d-test should be about VGA performance. For CPU performance, there are plenty of 2D benchmarks to run.
just my 2 cents :)
What we need is some competition to Futuremark. That will be the only way for them to be receptive to changes the community asks for whether it's features, price or lack of, type of testing we want it to concentrate on etc etc. I don't believe anything until they actually release the benchmark and it really is free and ppl will be able to submit a million times if they want to and also view results offline...something tells me this just isn't going to happen.
ME4ME what you are basically now suggesting is going to also be an issue when ppl start to bin GPUs................it will still cause issues all over again. It's not easy to find a good balance im sure..............
I used to hate Vantage but it's growing on me, it's actually primarily a GPU test where 05 & 06 are not, at least with a 980 :D Anyway you don't want a test that you can get a decent result with on a GTX 480/P4 combo. A good system has both CPU/GPU power to spare. With all the test FM has up now there is something for everyone and every system just about. And yes, we're FM addicts around here, we'll all be benching 11 unless it's a terrible bench.
Well people have already started binning pretty much everything: GPU's, CPU's and even memory. So that ship has sailed.
What i propose is just a 3D benchmarks which really depands on 3D performance. Not just like current 3dmark versions, were highly clocked cpu's make the records. For CPU / system testing, there are already lots of other benchmarks
Edit: im aint saying that a GTX480 + P4 should be able to take records, just that a 3D benchmark should be about 3D performance ;)
i wonder if you get a boost in points by running it in windowed mode?
would like it to be even more 3D depandent :)
cause at the MOA, even if we'd completed our 1350-1300 run, there is no chance we had even come close to hit the wr single card. Just because #1 and #2 (hwbot) are running either 2 cpu's or a freakingly high clocked one. Now thats not 3D, its 2D power isnt it :p:
But well... thats just some of my thoughts :)
Would love a benchmark more like Vantage Xtreme preset, but running in 1280x1024 and comparable for everyone (like performance preset is now).
