4Ghz with 1.18-1.21v is surely a good start for the new chips :up:

very nice vcore for 4.0Ghz.these chips look like they will be fun
hope the retail chips will be as good

I really like what I'm reading about the i7-875k so far, esp that it's easy to OC. I'm thinking of getting it and the ASUS P7H57D-V EVO MB, because I only want to do an OC just high enough to avoid any bottleneck in games and I'd really rather not get into raising the BLCK, which results in lots of trial and error voltage balancing and testing. This MB also supports the custom Turbo Boost ratio settings this chip allows for.

The reviews I like most of what I've read so far are these:

All 3 of these reviews show pretty good results from just raising the multiplier. Two don't raise the voltage at all, and one rasies it to just 1.27 volts. They're OCing much higher than I would go though, so I'm hoping I don't have to raise voltage at all on a decent air cooler. I'm thinking of shooting for a 24 multiplier, then bump the TB ratios to 6, 5, 3, 3. this would result in my target 3.8GHz on dual threaded games and 3.6GHz on quad threaded ones.

I really don't like that Intel is already talking about a different platform using the LGA1155 socket though. I know Intel platforms don't have as long a life as AMD's, but why make a whole new platform with a mere one pin different socket size? It makes me wonder how long 1156 will be supported. I could just get an i5 750 and a ASUS P7P55D-E LX (the 2 about the price of just the 875k alone), then just use the ASUS BIOS to bump the multiplier up one.

Originally I had planned on an 1366 rig, partly because it supports Hex Core and would be more future proof, at least one would think. With the talk of the LGA1155 and LGA2011 platforms coming though, I'm wondering just how long even the Hex Cores for 1366 will be available. I don't want to mistakenly buy into a platform, then a few yrs later when Hex written games become more popular (estimate), there might not be many if any left to buy due to 1366 EOL.

Liking the 875k, esp with the low price. How long do you guys think the 1156 platform will really be supported though? Intel's already talking 1155. Another thing is neither of those platforms will likely ever support hex cores. Do you think Intel will make any unlocked CPUs for 1366?
