According to this bit of news, Mafia 2 will utilize PhysX and 3D Vision for bigger and more realistic explosions, cloth physics, and increased immersion.
Another high profile release game that will use PhysX  :D

it all makes sense now
but everyone has ati... lol
"...explosions that are bigger and brighter, including weapon fragments, in-game debris and destructible environments that are amplified in both quantity and realism."
Well if those screenshots of "bigger and brighter explosions" are what you can achieve with PhysX, I think I can pass. An orange puff with a few bits of generic debris, meh.
mafia2 to use physix... mhhhh is nvidia that desperate or is it the continued delays with mafia2 that caused the devs to run out of money and nvidia offered them a deal? :D
Awesome! I've been waiting for this game. It doesn't use DX11 though, right?
^lol
You cared enough to search for a pic that adequately expressed your "carelessness," and then deep link it in this thread :ROTF:
Anyway, as predicted, this news has ruffled the feathers of ATI users who are once again dismayed that PhysX racks up yet another big release, and just won't seem to DIE! ;)
Now all we need is for Batman Arkham Asylum 2 to announce that like it's predecessor, it will be using PhysX :yepp:
Just finished Batman Arkham Asylum a second time with new an extra GTX, and with physx on high it does give a nicer feel and look to the game, especially the scarecrow levels. I think most nVidia users can be happy they get something extra on their hardware.
Good news about another big game using it.
If that happens then I for one won't be buying Batman Arkham Asylum 2.
It's sad to see how a gaming experience can be made to look inferior, without ANY reason at all (except money wise), for half the people who is going to buy / play it. I simply don't understand why developers allow things like this to happen. At least they could include Havok into the game instead giving both ATI and nVidia users the same experience.
I will be voting against this with my wallet, by simply not buying Mafia 2 (which makes me a bit sad since I was really looking forward to this game)
Good to know what will be touted as the next best PC game of the year from Nvidiots :)
I think everybody would care less about PhysX in a game, sure this game is gonna be good but come on Nvidia, is that the best you can do? PhysX doesn't make any significant difference in term of gameplay and definitely not an important factor to make up the quality of a game. And with so many good games already came out and coming out this year I doubt this game can compete, an example of a great sandbox game would be Red Dead Redemption, too bad it's for console only for now but still, I think everyone should check it out.
Well I'll definitely be grabbing this one, the first Mafia was awesome.
It's sad to see that you won't be buying what will certainly be an awesome game, for something as trivial (according to some of the people in this thread at least), as bigger explosions, cloth physics etc....
And while they could have used Havok instead of GPU accelerated PhysX, it would not have given the same experience. GPU accelerated PhysX is superior to Havok, for the same reason that a GPU is superior to a CPU when it comes to raw processing capability.
I honestly don't see what makes people so upset about a developer supporting manufacturer specific gaming technologies.
Do you think ATI hasn't pimped it's own technology before? Look up TruForm..
If the developer was supporting 3D Vision and not PhysX, I bet you would not have a problem with that..
How PhysX is implemented in this game or any other, isn't a full reflection of the API's capabilities..
Hardware PhysX is capable of much more, but if the developer does not use it's full capabilities, then shouldn't the developer be the one to blame?
The decision to include hardware PhysX in Mafia 2 was obviously made late in the game (similar to Batman Arkham Asylum), so the developer likely didn't have enough time to do a proper implementation. A game really has to be developed from scratch with it in mind to put it to good use.
Similar to a game that uses DX11 natively versus one that implements it via an add on patch.
Also, using PhysX for core gameplay instead of eye candy would not be advisable as long as ATI doesn't use PhysX, because ATI users would be at a disadvantage in the game.
Eye candy physics doesn't affect gameplay however so it doesn't matter.
How exactly is it being "made" to look inferior? Compared to what?
And how would it benefit ATI users if those additional effects were never included in the first place? There's no practical difference to an ATi user. But that doesn't matter as long as the other guys seem to be getting extra goodies.Quote:

You have a point, but taking it to different direction and that's not what I'm trying to argue with you. I'm just saying no matter how hard Nvidia is trying to promote PhysX, gamers and enthusiasts know that it's not a vital part of the game and doesn't add on any significant gaming experience. It's something that nice to have but not that important.
And how long has PhysX been around? Yet you put the blame on the developers not to take full advantage of PhysX, instead maybe you should ask why Nvidia didn't handle and market it properly.
You tend to provoke how ATI users upset when they don't have PhysX and all that but I bet most of them don't care about PhysX anyway, if not they wouldn't buy ATI in the first place, which make sense even more since it's not something you're looking forward in a game in term of judgment for quality.
They first mentioned it around a year ago, but people didn't want to believe that. Even when more evidence started showing up a few months ago...
I love the fact, that the same people that have no problem saying, that GPU PhysX effects are superficial and that they don't want it are saying, that they won't buy a game with it, because the game will be crippled for the rest without NV cards. Not to mention, that when NV blocked NV+ATI, they were the first one to complain.
The hypocrisy is unbelievable.
Will Mafia 2 with/without PhysX look the same ?
There is a practical difference in leaving something out that could easily have been in.Quote:

If you think that's what this is about then you really don't have a clue.Quote:
