i really regret selling mine, temps dont too bad. i am using the wife's laptop so i dont know what temps i normally get using the koolance full block.

nice... what was your average air temp? 42 degrees on 98% load is nice... the G80 kit fits perfectly without any modifications?

Guys, remember he's cooling the card with a MCW60 as well as the stock fan.

I was thinking about that, did he put the cowl back on the card? Otherwise the fan wouldn't be that effective would it?

The shroud-less fan chaotically moves a lot of air around under the video card. At the default 44% fan speed it seems to do the trick on my MCW60'ed 480s. The heatsink plate was somewhere in the lowish 40s when measured with an ir gun. I was concerned at first, but seeing those readings while folding for 48 hours @ 1.138v put my fears to rest.
$65 of used blocks to drop a combined 100 degrees Celsius at load. Best cooling upgrade ever.

I plan on trying this also with my GTX465's and the Koolance GPU only block. The GTX heatsink seems to be built like a unisink that D-tek use to put out and Swiftech now puts out except for having a fan. It should keep the memory and VRM's cool enough for some decent overclocks while the water block will keep the GPU nice and cool. If you wanted to put the shroud back on you could and just cut some of it out to allow the tubing to go out the top of the card, but then that would ruin your warranty.

Romir, what PCB temps are you getting at which clocks?

3/4" OD tubing would probably bump into a little plastic protrusion above the left barb so I dug out some used tygon 7/16" and 45s to be safe. The used tygon tubing slides easily onto 1/2" barbs but it kinks easily.

This was in an 800D with the stock fans and two GT-1450s blowing down into the case (originally for positive pressure with 480 stock fans at 100%).

Wow, ~40°C on PCB/VRM and core while folding is amazing. Any idea on how restrictive these blocks are? I'd need to buy them so mine would be MCW80's.

Factotum: Wierd. I thought it was in best interests of swiftech to make MCW80 fully compatible with MCW60 to be compatible with broad range of released previously unisinks for it :/

I found the MCW80 to be very restrictive, so I went to the Koolance GPU-220 for the same price. I got the same temps if not a few degrees better and it is not restrictive at all. It also has 4 ports for easier configuration.

That is not good at all that it's so restrictive (maybe I'll just need to find a way to parallelize the gpu's). I stand between getting two MCW80 (will look at those Koolance ones :up: ) for which I'd need a second pump to keep my single loop running - or getting two of whatever will come out as best combination of temps vs pdrop in Skinnee's testing. Both possibilities would cost about the same. :shrug:

i just did this same thing on my GTX470 and am having fantastic results. 40C so far is the highest ive managed to get it.

I experienced some contact issues and had to grind down the stock plate at the 'nubs' where the air cooler screwed in. Its flush now and great contact.

I'm learning of this the hard way as well. Even one block is very restrictive and two in series just kills my flow.

Are you running one or two blocks? I think a single card really is an ideal situation for these blocks. As Utnorris said full coverage blocks allow for easier configuration.

If i would ever use such solution, only with removed/disbled fan. Main source of heat is core anyway, so I think there is no need for that hairdryer type of turbine fan to spin.
