Whats up? PhII X3 BE

Hey all. I'm new here, but not new to overclocking and modding. I didnt see a section for introductions, so I figured I'd just say hi here. Hopefully it's cool to do so.

My system is in the sig. I was originally running dual XFX 5700's in CF, but had WAY to many driver issues, and am not that big of a gamer (although I do play from time to time), so I switched to my current 260 and am pretty happy with the performance.

At any rate, just wanted to introduce myself. I'll try my best to be a active and helpful member. :)

EDIT: Here are a couple quick pics. I've since done some cable wrapping, made some hardware changes and done some better wire management. :)

I have to ask, how do you like the CM Hyper TX3?

I own one and I am going to be playing with an Athlon x3 425 (Hoping to unlock to x4 phenom), so I was wondering how your temps were.

Btw, nice OC. Almost as high as my non-BE x4 phenom. ;)

@synthetick and charged: I'm actually pleasantly surprised at the performance of the TX3. I bought it to use as a stop-gap for the liquid cooling setup I was planning, but I may end up using the money elsewhere.

I'm running 4 cores, at 3.7ghz, at 1.46 volts and right now I'm idling at 25C (1.22 volts). Temps never get above 47C with all 4 cores crunching Primes for hours. It's certainly not the best out there, but for the money it more than does it's job. :) The case fans in the 902 really help thing out, as well.

Sounds good. One hell of a chip.

I am wondering if I'll have issues with temp sensors like I did with my sempron. Unlocking the 2nd core entirely ruined the temp sensing in HWmonitor.

Yeap. Once you activate ACC, you loose the ability to monitor the built-in CPU thermal sensor. The good news is most MOBOs have a thermal sensor under the CPU socket and are generally pretty accurate. I compared with ACC turned off (running 3 cores) and the mobo sensor was only off by 3C Idle and 1-2C full throttle. I also used an infrared thermometer just for giggles with the same result.

I like those Antec cases, I have a 300 for my bedroom/server case, and used a 900 for a couple years untill I needed something bigger for my self contained water rig.

[XC] Synthetickiller: Like Neck said, you'll probably lose your core temps when you unlock, but HWMonitor will still show the overall CPU temp on most boards and it's a pretty good judge of where your at.
Usually TMPIN0, or TMPIN1 on most boards. Once you run a stress test it will become pretty obvious... :yepp:

Daveburt714, I tried HWmonitor on my current rig and saw TMPIN0 shoot up within 3C on full load (still climbing, but steadily following that 3 degree gap). The only funny thing is that it's temp drops back to normal IMMEDIATELY after I stop running Prime. this is on a 790FX/SB600 board while the core temps take longer to drop (obviously).

That sounds about right?

I know you were asking Dave, but figured I'd chime in about my experience. The 3C sounds about right, however the unloaded temp action sounds a bit odd. It definitely goes down once you quit hammering the processor, but for it to go down immediately is kinda weird.

Its fine. Info is good info, despite the source, right? :D

My AM3 PII 945 doesn't read temps properly to being with. It claims 77F right now and it's probably 72 in my room. I know my mugn is good, but not THAT good eh?

It also claims 18C when I first get into windows, no way its 63F when its in the 70s in my house. lol

I'll get the processor in a few hours, so I'll see.

Thanks! Ive never been about the whole "case-bling" thing and have mostly stayed with plain-jane cases (I've built probably 50 systems over the years and this is the first one with a window), but I decided to try something different and I'm actually pretty pleased.

And as far as the micro-atx, its funny you asked. I'm about to build a Sempy system for my dad and that's exactly the form factor I chose. I'm just trying to decide on the case. Any suggestions? he doesn't need anything flashy or overly cool.

Also, how you liking that TJ06?

Overclocks the same as the one you got. I consider it (along with the mobo) as the best deal that I ever did when it comes to computers.

These things are really cool. I was thinking about buying the same CPU cooler as yours but than thought to go with the N520 because of the second fan (right out of the box) which delivers airflow in the mosfets area. By the way I used ram heatsinks on top of the mosfets. Did your mobo come with mosfet heatsink? Probably not. Did you do something about it?

Actually, the TJ06 is awesome for air cooling, but I wouldn't recommend it for water unless you love to cut up a case. Frankly, the case is too pretty to cut. I'd move to a TJ07 or something else better suited for water cooling.

I've always been a fan of inverted ATX cases, so that's why I went TJ06. My p180 basically fell apart on me. Antec cases like the 300, or in your case, 900, are great, but the 180 series IMO is just not made as well. I would consider a p180 mini though, bu that's another story. ;)

Ahh. My bad. Sometimes my brain doesn't coincide with what my eyes read. :) And you're correct, I haven't seen mini-itx in quite some time.

I actually had a silver P180 that someone gave me and I had the same exact problem as you. Not to mention it was pretty damn hot. It sure did look nice tho. :)

Nope. No heatsinks on the MOSFETs. I have pretty good airflow and have had no issues thus far (knock on wood!). If I start to get weirdness, I'll definitely pop some heatsinks on them bad boys. I just took an infrared thermometer to them and they're all at about 35C idle and around 60C with a full load. Not too awfully bad.

Whew! Changed out the Antec 650 today for a Corsair TX850w and completely redid my cable management. What a job! But it looks tons better than with the the non-sleeved Antec. I'll try to get some pics up later.

I should note, however that there was ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG with the Antec. It's a great PS and had plenty of headroom left, even with the previous dual 5770s and all my hard drives. I just got a bug up my butt seeing all the awesome builds here with black power supplies and sheathed cables, and decided I wanted one. :D Worst Buy has em on sale for $129 which is actually cheaper than the egg (before the MIR, of course). The TX750W was $99.
