You all saw this rite "5770 CF ~ GTX480 (Sometimes)"

I am just curious if you all saw this, 5770 CF vs GTX 480 vs 5870 vs ETC...

For the most part they come close to GTX 480 and for the other times the come close to 5870.

Now GTX 480 launch price is $499 and you can buy a POWERCOLOR AX5770 for $135 and CF will cost $270 or if you want factory OCed POWERCOLOR PCS+ that will cost $150 and CF will cost $300

Not bad at all and to think they can murder a GTX 470 for a cheaper price, $80 cheaper :eek:

I had started a thread about the 5770 CF tessellation performance tough there is no 100% surety but it does seem like 5770 CF uses both the tessellation units and as a result the min fps in extrema tessellation bench improve but that needs more tests and benchs to reach any type of a real conclusion....

3x5770's still better bang for the buck.

Dual GPU setups = headaches. Some games they will be really good, some games they will run terribly or not at all.

Plus those seem to be cherrypicked results, they're all at 60-100FPS+ anyways so results are meaningless IMO.

CF5770 handles the gtx480 in RE5...

an Nvidia driver update will fix the major discrepancies for sure

still CF5770 is a very nice bang for your buck.

me wonders how a 1000mhz/5200mhz CF5770 setup benches :p

now lets see some minimum fps results...

I think Nvidia cards are gonna get stronger as time passes I wouldnt gauge performance off of release drivers.

£240 for two 5770s = hardly any difference over a GTX 480.

In Heaven benchmark, 2x 5770s have higher minimum fps than a single 5870 does, so they cant be anywhere near as bad as people who dislike crossfire keep saying they are.

5770 X2 is a descent configuration, but still besides the price, has many disadvantages compared to 5870 or 480GTX. Noisier, hotter, requires games optimized for crossfire (most of them are nowadays), stuttering (sometimes). I know two guys that had those cards in crossfire and abandoned that configuration for a single 5850 or 5870. I had 5770 and was thinking about crossfiring it. After some analysis I decided to skip it and get the 5870.

Comparing to 480GTX, well at least they get noisy and hot equally in full load and the 5770X2 wins in idle (one card disabled for 2d environment by the drivers).

When it comes to raw power 480GTX wins all cases.

My point is that actually one should consider single GPU over crossfire for similar performance no matter if the price is right at the moment, in favor of the crossfire setup.

Wow.. Now here is a question, is that the DDR3 or DDR5 model that they tested? I can get the DDR3 model here for $86x2 = $172 or the DDR5 $124x2=$248. GTX480? $540. So for 300 less I can get something just as fast.

Epic. Now rather than consider a 5870 I think this might do it! Besides, these cards are so fun to play with. They clock like crazy!

Mostly false. My crossfire 5770s are silent, under 75 degrees, never had any stuttering. The price difference between 2x 5770 and 1x GTX 480 is £200. That is a lot of money for very little gain. The best choice if you just want a single card setup imo is an overclocked 5850.

Pixmania also have a great price on the MSI 5770 right here, I wouldnt hesitate at all to buy two of those if I didnt already have mine.

I only agree on the 5850 part of the statement as the best bang for the buck. 5870 is to damn expensive for sure.

Your words can easily be heard from every owner of 5770 X2 but the desire of switching to 5870 for example is overwhelming.

I never said that your setup was bad. It is good for the money for sure. But in overall it is not as good as 5870 or 480GTX.

Stuttering is present for sure but you might have missed it. Although it is not as bad as it used to be with the previous generations of GPU. When loaded it produces a lot more heat than single card and that is just a plain fact. I hope you will not make me search for proofs on the net now.

One again I agree that it is good for the price, I would not go for the 480GTX also, but 5850 or 5870 is a better buy (and will sell easier later when upgrade is needed).

well the HD5770's have been out and had plenty of driver relesaes to date, GTX480/70 im not a fan boy, I normally run ATI and still do dont plan on upgrading or getting fermi at all, but I think this means nothing as at release the HD5XXX's ran like crap and to date dont live up to their full potential.

you can only get 5770's in GDDR5, not DDR3 or DDR5 like you're suggesting (and yes, GDDR is different to DDR)

Yeah.. we are speaking of now and the not the future. In the future we will have the 7870 by the time nvidia realizes "the true potential" of the GTX480 and decides to shift focus to expensive home heater systems.

The 5770 is such a good card for its price point. I wish Tri-Fire scaled better and that might be the route I went, hah.

I'm surprised the 4870X2 is still on the board....and with no x fire results. Let's face it nVidia dropped the ball big time. Fermi is too expensive, price/performance. No question it's a solid card, but it doesn't live up to the nVidia legacy.

And, all the talk of Mutliple gpus is getting old...there are alot lot less of a headache than they were just 2yrs ago when there were Real driver issues. That's why the 4870x2 is still in the races. They have been improving drivers for multiple gpus and hence 4870x2 performance has been improved also. Only thing nVidia had was Vantage performance....I took care of that problem!

Yea, trifire scaling puts me off getting a third, and also that I cant get the same V1 cooler anymore to match my current ones. I'm getting rid of the aftermarket coolers I bought, the V1s are brilliant with MX3 paste.
