lost the CPU Turbo option in Bloodrage... how to restore?

Hello.

i have the strange problem. about 2 months ago i have the i7 950 cpu / bloodrage GTI with p08 bios and all was fine.
the option CPU Turbo : (always on/auto/disable) was in place.

i decided to flash to new G32 bios - flashed succesfully. all was fine.
then i replaced the i7 950 with a Xeon W3520 and.... this option dissapear from bios settings - no more CPU Turbo option for me...
i flashed back to p08-p09 - no effect - no option.
then i changed W3520 to the new one (good OC) 950. and... still no CPU Turbo option :(

i have no idea how to restore it ... :shrug: i flashed both BIOS'es to older version, did full reset, load optimized defaults and so on, but nothing helps and there is still no option in the bios :(

when i turning the PPM on in the CPU Features - the mobo automatically makes turbo multiplier permanenltry. Now if i turning on the PPM (EVEN if EIST off - earlier the turbo worked for me only if both was enabled) i get permanent x24 multiplier.
i'm need very much to get this option back, because i want to turn CPU Turbo in disabled state by this option and use PPM and EIST (this giving me rock stable voltage on the core - the exact as i set it, with PPM and EIST off - and x23 multi that i need when i set the 1.45 vcore - it gives me 1.42 in idle and 1.45 only under full load - linpack e.t.c - so i have many issues in the applications such as games - the voltage are fluctuating between 1.42 and 1.45 due to load on the cpu and sometimes i hanging).

any ideas? may be i need to reflash both bios'es on programmator? i have one on the work, but should it help? where and how this option "stored" and how it can dissapear and not appear again??? :confused:

I would try flashing both BIOS chips with some i7 on mobo and same version of BIOS to both chips (try P09). After that shutdown PC and use battery discharge jumper.. leave it for few minutes (or half an hour, as you want) and start..

what if you use the second bios chip?

already did it
when removed xeon - tryed to reflash with P08 / P09 - no difference :( it's just not in place anymore
just now flashed the new P10 - and the same - no option.... i have no idea... how it could be?

the same absolutely - tryed to change the bios by jumper (hard) or choose from bios (soft) - what bios to use - it don't help :( also the first thing i did - when i lost the option (and the G32 was flashed only in 1 bios) - i tryed to change to my second bios (there was P08 that time) - and no option were present.

is this mobo stores something not in bios (don't know where...)?

i would try the battery discharge function (i used it too before - for about 2-3 minutes) and/or remove the battery itself.
and will try to reflash one bios on programmator with full capacity erase before flash. if it will not help too - soo... the option depends on something else.

just no CPU Turbo option as you can see... :( turning PPM/EIST in enabled-disabled states do nothing

oh yeah it does... some is stored in another chip...
i think powering off the psu or removing the psu and removing the bios battery for 5 mins should solve the problem...
you can also use the vbat jumper if you cant remove the battery easily

wonder if this does the trick... i didnt think this kind of info is stored outside the bios...

If after the initial period of adjustment the circuit for the voltage state detect a TTL delay, there's some chance that the thermal protection would glitch and eventually lead the software, to read the register as "sticked".
This does not prevent the Intel Turbo Boost to operate correctly. The onchip circuit is just cutting out the ability to access some critical hardware function via reroute request.
Take mine explanation with a proper clamps and keep in mind: this is perhaps triggered by a bug introduced with the release 25 and above.
It is for sure evident on the 28, which I' m using by long. Anyhow, it's heartily advised to reset the data configuartion while switching BIOS revision,
and, for restore the CPU internal configuration, you should traffic a little more with the battery discarge to dry out completely the board.
If this happens repeatedly, you may also need to check your ground and/or if some minor short circuit are in some way preventing a good signal.

hm... sorry but i didn't understand some things. Bug is in bioses above G25 and sometimes this situation can appear?
as i described - i still have ability to turn turboboost on and off - but not through option made for that. just by disabling/enabling the ppm.

what do you mean "dry out completely the board" ? remove all components (cpu/memory/video and so on) or something else?

i expirienced this only once - just changed my 950 to xeon 3520 (noticed that the multiplier stuck at 23, but really in windows the frequency was as in 20x multi) then did load optimized defaults and flashed to G32 (one of the chips) and option dissapeared and i never see it again until now.

full rig config in my signature - i'm using ups - so i haven't lost power and so on. no problems with grounding also.
how all this corresponding to the appear/dissapear just option in the bios settings? function still works...

It doesnt matter if you change firmware\bios revision while some data are still registered on some component of the board.

load optimized defaults is a soft mode for erase the data.

Configuration in advanced nano "mechanic" are usualy redundant for prevent unexpected failure. It's kinda hard to explain :P
By the way, on the manual look for;
Discharge Battery Jumper: VBAT_DISCHARGE

you dont have to leave the board without psu and battery for a whole night, 15mins should do the trick.

big thanks for help guys :) trick worked for me.

set the battery discharge jumper for 4 hours. then set it back to default. booted as usual, checked the option - YEAH ))) it's in place. maked load opt. defaults and reconfigured the bios then.
all works fine as it should and option is in place :)

p.s. also noticed that the P10 bios now detecting and shows correctly the CPU VID (my 950 has a 1.24375v), all previous versions set it to 1.20v default with any cpu that i have.
and one more question - any plans to add the ability to control the B2B memory timing? it's VERY usefull, but it's no way to control it on Foxconn and some RAM sticks are not working properly without it :( my new Kingston HyperX PC16000-8-8-8 6Gb kit on Elpida Hyper chips feels fine with this timing in it's default disabled state, but my previous kit that i sold due to impossibility to work on 8-10x multipliers. it was Geil EVO One kit PC16000-9-9-9 possible on Samsung or Elpida Base - now it works perfectly on Gigabyte board with B2B in "6")
this should be really usefull setting and could resolve a couple of "memory incopatibilities"

try high trfc, like really high... i think that indirectly adjusts b2b... but im not sure...
and about getting b2b support... pm lord trident aka carl... hes pretty good at pushing the bios engineers to get their job done, so he might be able to finally get them to do it :)
after all it should be fairly easy, just mapping the right register to a function and mapping the right bits with what they stand for... then again, the foxcon bios engineers havent been good when it comes to memory in the past... not at all :D

My RIIE used to do that with a few options as well (vanishing bios items) - usually loading bios defaults does the trick.
No need to pull batteries etc

Why - crunching uses every thread and every core, so with a quad core CPU clocked at 4Ghz, you actually get 16Ghz worth of crunching power - because you'd need to accumulate 16Ghz on a single core machine to do the same amount of work.
Of course, you need to be running WCG to understand that. Well, are you? :p:

TRFC didn't help me with GEIL. so i decided to move on Elpida Hyper some months ago and now absolutely no problems )) but this option is very usefull. it should be great if it appear in future bioses.

i know... ive been asking for it for months... :/
