Corsair Dominator GT 6GB 2000MHz CL8 @ 2500MHz 8-9-8-24 1T

I present to you a short overclocking test of the well known Corsair Dominator GT 6GB 2000 CL8 modules. This particular kit isn't that good, they do 2000MHz 7-8-7-20 1T with 1.77-1.79v. They have the new revision Elpida Hyper (MGH-E), which you can see from the CMG part number writen on the modules. The memory is aircooled by CMXAF1 during all the tests...

Test platform:

CPU: Xeon W3580 on SS
MB: EVGA X58 3xSLI Classified
VGA: HIS X1600PRO
HDD: Samsung F3 500GB
PSU: CoolerMaster Real Power PRO 1250W

I want to ask you something, I see you are comfortable with 1.90V, do you use some aggressive fans? I've seen pic in your other thread without fan, how warm are your memory heatspreaders? 1.90V is your fail safe votage for benching? I'm at 1.75V mostly so I'm curious :)

The PSC chips on the GTX1 in the other thread are cold as ice, but as we all know the Elpida Hyper are little hot bastards. So, I cooled them with the CMXAF1 fan from Corsair which did a good job, the modules stayed just a little warm even at 1.9v. The MGH-E don't die that easily, you can feed them with 2v and they're still ok :)!

Thank you for your answer, with AMD I don't need high voltage because my memory is not the problem, so increasing voltage doesn't help, but it is good to know I can move safely to 1.80V for benchmarks, it will give me more room when I switch to another motherboard

CL7 seems very bad if 1090 1M is all you get with 1.9V
I guess you just stumbled on a CL8-preferring kit there

The ram clocks are very good no doubt, but what's really impressing me here is the 1250 in triple channel. It takes a rare IMC to do that...

Yes, the IMC on that Xeon is very good.... around 5150-5200MHz uncore in SPI1M / PiFast on SS :)

I said at the begining the kit is not very good with CL7, I have much better kits... but the CL8 is strong...
