Sorry double post... So I'll use it...

I am still waiting for those processors to be tested, and the new AMD ones to be unveiled on March 29.

I'm still in-between the XEON E5620 and the Opteron 6128... waiting for the tests and the real prices. And a server board that overclocks. :)

I want the 2.66 version. But, since these are 2P CPUs, will they work on normal X58 MBs? I have a X58 UD3R from Gigabyte atm.

no 6core below 1000$, and the only affordable 32nm quads are either crippled by their multiplier, or have cores disabled or cache disabled or all of the above... lame intel... very lame...

the 5620 is the most interesting one id say... but 2.4ghz for 400$...
will probably cr4p out at 4g on air... and no ht, so not very future proof...
lame... with those prices 32nm doesnt make sense at all... if you really want 32nm and have the money, the only thing that makes sense is to get the 6core 980x :/

lots of disabled features, lots of cut down cache and cores... and fully functional chips cost notably more than cut down chips... so they are scarce... is it just me or is intel having yield problems with 32nm?

I guess I'll buy 2 X 8 cores Opterons then.

Looking at the Table you posted, the 5620 actually HAS HT and other Features. This one seems to be the most interesting one, if it works on X58MB and is OC'able :)

lol saaya negative as allways, intel always cuts features in the lowerend xeons, look up the 550x vs the 55x0. And the new 56x0 series is a direct replacement of the 55x0 series.

They new 56x0 have the same price as the old 55x0.

5620=5520
5630=5530

And with the 5650 you get a hexacore for the same price as the old 5550.

The only thing that is a bit different is the 56x7, which is a new product, guess its a slavaged hexacore.

The memory controller supports dual DIMMs per channel at 1333MHz clock speeds, too, where Nehalem-EP supported only one per channel.

good improvement so that will be on par then with the new AMD MagnyCours accept for the 3chan - 4chan difference

The Xeon 5600 series will face somewhat more formidable competition in the form of the six-core "Istanbul" Opterons, although signs still point to a clean sweep of the performance and power-efficiency contests by these new Xeons

he's probably also smoking a bit to much, yeah for sure it would be a clean sweep if AMD would only have Istanbul to counter 56xx series, duh the reason why intel is introducing the 56xx series sooner is because of the new AMD platform.....

yep a clean update you get a 56xx with higher clock, cache and lower TDP (whatever that rating is worth these days) for the same price it is a decent path.
however if this is the asp of 1000+ units then intel margins against AMD are optimistic. I smell price drops soon :D

@saaya any chance on getting QPI speeds on that chart? From the looks of it the L5630 is still the best performance/watt per $$. Was kind of hoping for the L5640 but unless it sells for much less than the $1K mark ain't gonna happen.

Disappointing :shakes: The only workstation CPU is the W3680 (980x). I guess intel really caught on to the overclockers buying all the W3520, 3540's. I had a gut feeling we wouldn't be seeing any W5640/5650 at launch.

There are other W56xx chips, just not on that list.

Unless they scrapped them all after making ES versions :shrug:

Oh no. Just released new line of intel enterprise server chips are really expensive? It must mean yield problems. Yeah, that's it.

The cheapest consumer 6-core is the 980 at 999 usd, why would they release cheap W series xeons with 6 cores at a much lower pricepoint, enterprise oriented priced hardware usually goes up, not down compared to consumer hw.

Because in the previous generation (Nehalem 45nm) there where full blown CPUs, at lower freq, like Xeon 5520 which where sub 999$. for 500$ you could get one.

Well, with this generation there is no under 999 cheaper 6 core, even if in the previous one there where models bellow 999.

It's Intel's decision, but i wish there was a 2.26-2.4 ghz hexa-core at 500-600 USD. I would buy it for sure.

Yah enterprise Dual QPI CPU's are more expensive. I'm talking about workstation CPU's. The W series are sold at a slight premium to desktop counterparts and are technically for a whole other customer. I was hoping they would cater to these customers so us overclockers could get in a little cheaper. I guess intel caught on when W3540 and W3570 was king for a bit there.

Im wondering is intels cooking true dual/quad cores or just harvesting 6 cores? if so you could see cheaper 6 cores in the future as they get better results?

Well it's obvious what they are doing. They want to milk the highend market as long as they can before releasing cheaper parts to pay for fabs. I understand their model, but as a consumer they can kiss my......

The 5650 is a 21 multi 6 core w/HT and under a grand .
Also to all, keep that L5640 in mind at $774.00
That's a hell of a chip and should do 4000 in a good X58 single socket board.
For the guys that want speed not power the X5677 is what you want.
27 multi, 3600 on turbo and that might run close to 5GHz on air.
