Bad Company 2 dedi servers must be rented from DICE host

Protect the "integrity" on the PC. Suuuuuuuuuure. This reeks of "Holy cr*p MW2 bombed on the PC without dedi servers, let's slap this on as an afterthought and capitalize on MW2's lack of dedis with marketing!"

What's with this newfound fear of real third party dedicated servers?

bd2 and 2142 people only had match and ranked servers. and u had to get a ranked server from and autherized host. except this time there will be more hosts available.

they also dont have a dev console

Here is a list of issues people are concerned with
1. There is no prone in the game
2. No console to input commands
3. They are using software only 16bit sound while consolers use 32 bit sound
4. No use of PBBans streaming (although this is currently being looked at by Dice, I am not sure of the final verdict)
5. No Battle recorder (not sure how much of big deal that is)
6. No recon (again not sure how much of big deal that is)
7. No modding tools.

32 bit sound? That sounds ridiculous, how do you get that to your receiver for example? I just hope PC sound will be very nice and you can still get very good quality sound from just 16 bit.

Well then this game will be DOA if not utter rubbish on the PC.

Going to keep looking for BF3 or another large scale game that isn't just a console port, which this game clearly is. Every time they deny a game is a console port, and every time it looks the same.

From what I'm reading it's a huge stink over it. Here's the explanation. It's not clear how many threads are needed for software audio. But once questions were either asked or some simply didn't approve here is what another rep from Dice had to say.

Except this is not BF3...this is an improved upon console port of Bad Company 2 with a tad of support for the PC to hold us over until BF3. Don't expect full fledged features, function, or support.

BC2 is not a game of it's own. It is from BF2 (with single player element). Therefore, not strictly a console title. It's very well possible that if this formula even semi works in BC2 could be used in BF3.

They want you to snipe crouching only for this game. There is no eta for BF3. It's been rumored that BF3 won't be out until either 2011 or 2012. Take your pick on which rumor you want to believe. You can always choose option C which is this year.

"Bad Company" was franchised for the console market. Bad Company 1 was console only. They are releasing a PC version b/c so many people complained, and so they should have.

the 16 bit sound thing is a non issue. Everything you listen to is 16 bit. The only exception is some bluray audio, which is 24 bit.

I'm not concerned about sound with my Audigy + kX Audio drivers but no prone WTF, I really hope that gets added if it hasn't. Hope all beta PC testers will complain about that one if it's not there. Most companies are reasonable enough to listen to often received complaints.

What are you trying to prove? Yes, the idea for a Battlefield shooter on the console came from the Battlefield PC series. But they are not the same games. Pertaining to BF2...some would argue it has more playability than Bad Company because of what the PC platform allows you to do, but Bad Company also had destructible environments and other newer quirks in its exclusivity. Now we're getting a version on the PC.

You've answered your own question. To also add, the Frostbite engine is also updated so that it can use DX11. Just because BC was only found on the console doesn't mean that the game itself came from the console. Something you already admitted to in your own post (bold portion). So I hope it clear why I disagree with you. Thanks for clarifying what I thought you understood with my post. :up:

Piracy mainly. You can easily modify the DS files so any user without a legit CDKey can join in.

Also reducing (or removing altogether) the amount of user made content and the game's longevity: You can play the first Unreal Tournament and Quake 3 even now simply by setting up a DS. You will not be able to play Modern Warfare 2 two years from now i bet since they will want you to buy MW3 :shrug:
Mods add a lot to the game's longevity.

The multiplayer games you buy with centralized servers will never last as long as those with decentralized servers.


All this being said, MW2 could really benefit of these kind of "closed" dedicated servers, so the lobby creator doesn't need to host the actual match. If they are going to keep their position on public DS, this would at least get rid of the lag problems.

To be on topic, I'm kinda sad about how PC gaming is evolving nowadays. At first is no this, no that and then it's just gonna be: lie down on the floor and be quiet, we'll take your 50 bucks.

Or to force things like micro transactions, cut out modding completely, disallow custom settings, etc. etc.

I mean hey, why not take more extreme measures to slow down piracy. Worked really well with MW2. It surely didn't end up being the most pirated game of the year in a matter of a mont.....ohhhhhhhh :rolleyes:

L4D has both centralized and third party servers, and even let players filter between the two so if you want a "pure" experience you can play on those exclusively. But you can go play on modded servers with custom rules and maps if you want to. Everyone is happy.

MW2 has many problems aside from using a listen server format, with not being able to control what map you connect to being near the top of the list.

Jesus, 16bit sound is no problem at all, its fine, you wouldn't know the difference anyway and its fully capable of everything we need atm.

No 3. party servers, sux a bit but is no killer, no console to input commands and no prone are little downers too.

Software only sound is meh, but other than that it looks fine if you ask me. Especially comparing to MW2.

The 16bit sound is a bit of a let down. I don't know about a lot of you, but after watching the videos the sound is what has me the most excited.
Christ, the noise of those Bofors in the videos are just amazing.
