I'm wondering if any1 of you have tried this yet and checked how much of a performance loss there is in a benchmark for example.

I did some Pi and 3D01 and the results were basically identical to running in Windows 7.
That's interesting. Well I suppose the hardware virtualization simply works that great. I'd be interested doing a 3DMark06 bench myself, that's the benchmark that suffers the most between XP and Windows 7, basicly 900 points lower cpu score in Win 7 with this setup, with my Core 2 Duo setup it was ~500 points difference. But then again I doubt it would be possible to get better performance in a emulated mode than the OS you're running it in as it should only be more work for the system, but I have no idea how the hardware virtualization and XP mode works in detail for starters anyway as I haven't checked em out. :p:Quote:

Windows XP Mode is the combination of two features. The first part is a pre-packaged virtual Windows XP environment. The second is Windows Virtual PC, which is used to run the virtual Windows XP environment. Windows XP Mode is best suited for older business and productivity applications such as accounting, inventory and similar applications. Windows XP Mode is not aimed at consumers because many consumer applications require extensive use of hardware interfaces such as 3-D graphics, audio, and TV tuners that do not work well under virtualization today.
^ ye same - i was trying to get some old games to work under XPM for a good 3-4hours last night.
They would install on XPM, however when it gets to the point of requiring the CD to load up the game - it wouldn't recognise the CD

So im going to have to dual boot i think which is highly annoying but that's just how it'll be :S
i did a few superpi comparisons a while back with the win7 rc and xp mode beta as well with virtual pc on my winxp partition. the results were nearly identical: virtual pc respectively xp mode always was around 0,1-0,2 secs slower which is a very good result if you ask me. hardware virtualization was enabled in virtual pc (in winxp, hw virtualization for xp mode in win7 is mandatory though) and i didn't even bother to test without it.
however, i'm wondering you guys could run 3dmark in xp mode... since when does xp mode support 3d-hw-acceleration? i'm fairly sure it doesn't.
the only game i ran in xp mode was age of empires 2 ;)
