New video: the most ridiculous Lucidlogix (Hydra chip) interview... ever!

Ok, I'll admit.

I was hooked the moment I heard about this company (Lucidlogix) and it's technology (HYDRA) almost two years ago. But I know many of you (being cynics) simply dismissed Lucid's claims!

Those claims seemed a bit outrageous, but I was intrigued. So I looked at who was behind the technology, etc. What I found was very interesting. A simple look at who the Board of Directors are, then question why they got 33 patents so quickly... those scheming bastards were up to something.





OK anyways...

Lucid's claim didn't go unotticed... But why are people still dismissing this technology? Nobody is talking about the fact that the technology is in fact working and has been demonstrated.

I'm like anyone else, I thought (at best) Hydra would offer 70%'ish scaling, but have alot of driver issues and eventually be crushed by newer implementations of SLI. Hydra technology was to be thought of as (possibly) a marginal improvement over SLI/Crossfire. But, this Lucid video I just saw is insane! If true, what he's talking about is breath-taking. Yet, this guy is nonchalantly discussing whats possible, (it's sounding like the Holy Grail of GPU)... and that crazy bastard is talking, as if, all of that technological madness is trivial now and just should be accepted as fact....

This claim cannot go unchecked. It's too ridiculous and ludicrous!

What that freak is talking about is the holy grail... and he's total oblivious to how trivial he's making it sound. It's surreal!

Watch the video! dude, educate yourself before making quips. I'm not a fanboi, I'm a huge skeptic. Even more so, now!

Almost as ridiculous as your spelling of ridiculous.

I don't think Nvidia would allow this to happen. I can't imagine AMD would be happy either. Hope I'm wrong though!

Does this get any more concrete than this or just talk all the way?

Edit: okay, it does show an ATi and nVidia working side-by-side --
or at least it seems like it, I can't help but notice that both cards
have monitor cables plugged in. Also, they don't show any perf.
numbers, there's no way of knowing if the performance is any
better than a single card. They also show older / less demanding
games, and no FPS-counter. So until they show numbers, I regard
this as vapourware.

too many unknowns, and ill just wait for a review before i make any calls.

I say yes, it can and will do it. But to what extent, and how effectively? and why all the multiple monitors connected even in the diagrams shown in other threads about this? It must be something that works to some extent for a reputable motherboard manufacturer to be putting on a motherboard.

Apparently people didn't actually watch the whole video... because there is some extremely impressive claims being discussed there... along with it, those claims are being backed up by working systems.

You cannot say "I'll believe it when I see it" .... because you've just seen it. We haven't seen performance numbers, but that really doesn't matter as the technology in-and-of-itself is mind boggling. So, here we have a very secretive company (33 Patents), backed with millions by Intel, releasing technology (that we've all been wishing for) and nobody is taking this chip or company seriously.

We do have to take Lucidlogix as a legitimate company. Nothing they've said has led us to believe otherwise. Their claims cannot be fake, it wouldn't bode well for Intel, MSI and investors.




Coincidentally, if you are trying to paint me as neurotic, then you obviously didn't watch 100% of the video. As no discerning hardware enthusiast would've missed those subtle remarks of how exactly the Hydra stack in the OS and how it actually works! He also mentioned it's an actual microprocessor (RISC?), etc. Under 6 watt?

I was talking with the lucid guys today, and the entire system is transparent to the display drivers s well as the game.

Basically, the hydra chip sits between the directx layer and the graphics driver layer and intercepts all the draw commands. The draw commands are then load-balanced and rendered independently. The only thing I'm confused on is how the display data gets from the rendered card to the display card if the drivers don't see it. maybe the hydra chip does this transferring around as well, didn't think to ask at the time.

at least they got hardware to show.
I seen gamedevelopers talking about games that never see the light of day.

however, Nvidia must think grrrrr and grinding teeths, our cards running with ati, which is impossible currently.
I just wonder about physX uisng this combo.
if that is doable with ati/nvidia combo, that be fun

Yes, in the video he said the HYDRA 200 talks DirectX at one end, and PCIe at the other. It just intercepts DirectX code, run it threw their matrix and has any two paths (ie: GPUs) resolve the data and just spit it out.

It's so simple, it hurts my head.

In the video it is explained very clearly how HYDRA integrates in a system both on software and hardware side.

Also the video is more then enough to demonstrate the point of this technology.

What about the fact it is on sale in a month give/take...
Admittadly not ready for cross GPU etc, but that is a matter of time

Surely that is enough the fact it'll start appearing before the end of 2009

What is there to get excited about right now? All I saw was some guy start up a game using Win7 which has built in support for 2 video adapters and an icon appear in the corner of the screen. That about sums it up.

wheres the benchmarks, why havnt they compared gpu scaling in real situations. if they have it on a production ready motherboard, i think its time they show off its potential.
