it's good to see the i5's overclock well, because they're gonna need it for that socket to succeed in the least. If they're clocking better than 775's by a long shot i see people actually considering the upgrade.

Hey guys when you do these VERY nice overclocks (high voltages and speeds) on these cheaper boards, do you put any kind of load on the chip or motherboard? Only reason I am asking is I have an Asrock X58 Extreme, gets great reviews everywhere, however, the other night I had my cpu at 4.0ghz(191x21) vcore about 1.23-1.25, VTT at 1.34, CPU PLL at 1.88, DRAM at 1.654 and HT on. The heatsinks on the board got SO HOT after about an hour of prime Large FFT's, I couldn't even touch them. Then the board shut down, which is a good thing instead of burning up. I had to wait for it to cool down before starting it up again. This was with the side of the case off and an ambient temp of about 19C in my basement.

My point is I guess, these cheap boards are great, dont get me wrong, but something has to be sacrificed for it to be cheaper than say a Gigabyte, Asus or EVGA board.

What do you guys think?

if you use stock heatsinks on the boards and dont add any beefy fans on them, yes, they will run very hot :D
and yes, some of them obviously use cheaper components... but if your looking for price/perf they are a great alternative...
for most serious ocers stock heatsinks are the first thing that goes POP and flies into the trash can anyways :D
or they use ln2 and have huge fans on them, so then it doesnt matter that the heatsinks arent very powerful... :D

but yes of course... you get what you pay for... ;)

what does everyone use then when the stock heatsinks "POP" :D off the motherboard. Being that this board and my Asrock aren't "extreme" boards, there are no watercooling blocks and its hard to find aftermarket parts.

I was even thinking about making my own copper waterblock :cool: if I cannot find another alternative.

Man that is crazy good for a buck & a quarter board !!

I'd put that more on it being an Asrock than anything else. Then again, shouldn't you have stopped Prime beforehand if you saw dangerous temps?

Thats the thing, the bios must not read the MB temps right. Highest it got was about 35-36C. At idle its 31C. Only way I found out was to stick my hand on it, by then it was too late. Obviously I would have stopped it if I saw the temps were out of control.
