A look at the internals on a Waterfall reservoir

That was way too much fun for one week.

All of them are 1/4" polycarbonated fused with waterthin polycarb cement and overlayed with a fillet of Weldon 16. I test them for several days to check for leaks. They all have slightly different internals.

Those look pretty bad ass... If it worked with my build I would probably grab one for sure. Maybe on my next build.

Question though. You may have covered this and I just missed it but what about bubbles? It seems like there are so many that they would become something of a problem.

Looks sweet CD, you should talk to Geno about getting you some that are just the pump top section. and missing the res section so they don't stick out so far. :shrug:

The 5 bay res, is 3.5 inches deep, and 6.5 deep at the t3 end, its going into my HAF932 build, along with a IandH bloodrage block.

The size was contrained by the feser 360.

Bubbles are inherent in a waterfall...one of the reasons most fish ponds have somethinglike that to aerate the water. Definitely a sacrifice for looks...but I try to come up with internals that limit the amount of air returning to the pump. Hence all the slight variations from unit to unit.

It's actually a little nicer to cut and route than acrylic...not so stinky and sticky, but God help you if a piece gets sucked into the saw and spit back out:eek:

I credit pTrout with getting me rolling in that direction. We went back and forth on various points and finally arrivedat the unit in the vid. It's got a great look. Even without a pump I like the smaller L dimension on this res. For cases with tons of empty optical bays I think a 3" deep res like this would be cool in as many bays as you can spare...fill em up with water :p:

I am interested in makingone that has the same effect with less noise and aeration. But the way light lenses through the water is my favorite.

That is definitely a limiting factor on the TyphoonII graft. The pump needs about two bays of pond in the res to stay wet and that limits what you can achieve with 3 bays. I put the first fall right off the top and could only fit one trough which will actually be half submerged. You still still get a double fall effect.

You should see how jammed his case is with gear...there's about 1/8" clearance between res and rad.

Great work. Your stuff is definitely one-of-a-kind. From looking at them, I'll bet they take a lot of time to make- a lot more than most people would realize.

I fool myself into thinking they don't take that long to make...then I make like 5 or 6 at a time and a week goes by and at the end I always think what the hell am I doing? Beats flipping burgers I guess :D

I guess with a bit more restriction the flow will be a bit lower and there probably wont be quite as many bubbles.

Yes I believe that is the case in an actual loop. Once I got the one installed in a turn key I did last week it was exactly what I wanted: a gentle flow with very little noise. The HK blocks are apparently pretty restrictive.

would it be possible to put a plate in front of the fluid out hole that slants downward in front of it and has small holes at the top to let and bubbles escape? Something like the Swiftech RES. That may prevent any bubbles from getting sucked up.

It looks great in a loop though. I've already decided on a theme for my next build because of these.

The last unit I made I put a piece over the bottom port but no bubble hole. The bubble hole is a good thing. But the piece I used was simply parallel to the bottom about an inch up and an inch wide.

I used Blue LEDs on the 5-bay vid and blue and green 4" CCL tubes on the Glowfall vid
