AMD DX11 RV8xx Card Exposed

Seems that nobody has posted it in the news section yet..

I am wondering if this is the same thing as 4890, but with added DX11 features and shrunk to 40nm? I cant remember what Evergreen was exactly..

September launch?? That means 3 months for a re-spin, which is probably the minimum..

Was posted in the other thread... Evergreen is just the codename for the card, since they've stopped using the Rxxx codenames

I think that they stopped using Rxxx codenames because it was too easy to figure out which card went where. Now, it is a bit harder.

Though, I'll miss 'em. :(

Evergreen's supposed to be the code name of the entire DX 11 family GPU from ATi from this generation, i've heard.

The die shown in Computex (180nm) would make more sense as a RV870 core housing 1000-1200sps, but there is a possibility that the actual card used in the demo is not based on the same core, but in RV840. That is hinted due to the single 6pin power plug.

One could argue that when RV770 came out the 4850 card had also one 6pin instead of two. There have been reports though that maybe that card that replaces 4850 could be based on the RV840 and not RV870 core.

At this point, we really do not know more...:confused:

Cards were as short as the 4770 in the pics of the demorigs; it has to be rv840 unless amd managed it to fit a card 30% faster than 4890 into a 150W TDP with 22cm long vga boards ;)

With abit more SPs, 1Ghz clock or lower and an improved 40nm it shouldnt be impossible to be around the 110-120W TDP.

IMHO, ATi's ~180 mm^2 chip will come out first in September, then its bigger brother, something that's sized around 260-320 mm^2 will come when GT300 arrive in Q1 2010, complete with an X2 card to destroy the competitors performancewise (GT300 and Larrabee).

And that's why ATI only gave us a vague codename. No matter which chip it is they'll keep Nvidia (and us) guessing.

At least it should be cheaper, cooler, and nicely overclockable with voltage mods!!! :D

Within 30 days, we'll probably be seeing 4890 cards for the same price as 4870 cards are right now.

I only think its us thats left guessing.

AMD/nVidia/Intel knows pretty much everything about one another atleast 6 months before launch. I cant imagine anything else. The 3 companies plus all their external partners is just not something you cant keep anything quiet with.

But this time AMD messed with the codename.
Only by internal leaks such information could come out to Intel or Nvidia.

In the past if you knew the die-size and the codename (RV770, RV740, ...) it's enough to know a lot of things.
Now you know die die size but you don't know the codename. Evergreen don't say nothing to anyone.

There's enough communication that goes on between individuals in each company that they each will have a pretty good idea where the others stand in terms of development, performance, etc. It's the same everywhere in the technology space, AFAIK.

Because developing cycle aint 3 weeks? The cycle is 4-6 years for CPUs and I guess about 2-3 years for GPUs.

It took AMD 3 years to even get near Conroe after it was demoed. And it took AMD quite some time to match the original G80 aswell.

Too many people suffers from the instant gratification syndrome.

All we say is that its only the consumer thats left guessing. And not nVidia/AMD/Intel.

And you base that on what? nVidia did quite well financially until the laptop soldering issue.

It cant be marketshare either since nVidia grew and AMD dropped. nVidia ships 2 GPUs when AMD ships 1.
