What makes a computer a MDPC??

Now, everyone knows that MDPC shows that sexiest computers in the world:D Have you guys think of why they they can be a MDPC?

Here is the question:

What are their qualities that can make them to be on MDPC?
Or I can say, what make a beautiful computer BEAUTIFUL?

Is it the...
Innovation?
Creativeness?
Colorful lighting?
Marvelous cases?
the Crazy hardware?
Water cooling?
the Awesome colors?
the Photography skills?
the 9001st dollar spent on it?
the Loving Sponsors?

or they are just PLAIN BEAUTIFUL?

i think innovation could be one of them as i am trying to fit more rads in a cosmos s then it really can

I think its creativity,simplicity (not too many LED fans) and a dash of photography skills.

It will be especially interesting to hear Nils' answer :)

The photography skills. Without it nearly all those machines would look meh.

Iono, but i dont see many lights on some MDPC's

I think most of them are watercooled, or phased.

It's like "what makes a car a supercar?" It's that it is a work of art, innovative, and exceptionally functional, and someone took the time to take absolutely perfect pictures of it. A supercar isn't a supercar without awesome pictures showing it off. It shows off the passion of the designer(s) and builder(s), and touches a part of you deeper than you'll find in your pants.

On some level, it might even be a bit crazy, or beyond logical necessity. Excessive, but not to the point of obscenity.

At least, that's what I think makes an MDPC, but I haven't finished mine yet.

i think its mostly in presentation and photography skills.

its definitely not based on price tag or hardware.

I used to joke with skinnee saying i was gonna bulldoze my way in to the MDPC with haruhi, but the doors are shut.

Nils last said i was 900,000 dollars short of enterence fee.. :rofl:

3. B&W and macro gives you bonus points

I think what it takes to make it to MDPC is "no compromises." It doesn't have to be high end components - but it's definitely got to have "that look." It's about striving for perfection with what you have - even in the hidden corners that no one sees. Absolutely, photography helps - but a beautiful pic of a dog PC isn't going to cut it. Some of the photography at MDPC is stunning - some of it is what any of us could achieve --- but it shows the PC in a beautiful way, and you can see that there were "No Compromises."

I think it is exciting, because it pushes us all to do better.

EDIT: just saw the last post - can pretty much guarantee you photoshopping isn't going to get you there.

I think it's not only about photography skills but the show of dedication that the builders demonstrate. They build computers not as a hobby, not as a plaything, but as a art. If you see any of the computers on MDPC, they are above and beyond most if not any other computer we've ever seen; they take aesthetics and presentation to a whole different level.

However, is it just me or does it seem like almost all MDPC builds are water cooled? :)

I hope dualbrain wouldn't mind me posting this... :)

But if people do - they are close to MDPC. Hardware power is not listed there in a specs-list, because in 5-10 years the power will be as stunning to people as a pocket-calculator is to us today. Design will be forever and that's why MDPC documents the influences and turning-points in history :D

MDPC generally seems to require disconnecting as much as you can get away with and really expensive photography equipment. Photoshop skills also a must.

Trust me ... photoshop is not a "must." Before a PC gets approved for MDPC, you have to send your "raw, unadulterated" files as well as your final ones. You can't hide a wire here or there.

Also, if you look through all the systems, there are a number of air-cooled ones. Agree it's harder to get a loaded system to MDPC quality - but just take a look at VirtualRain's setup.

I am confused by this - None of my pics were ever photoshopped and Nils has a pretty strict policy about seeing straight files from the camera so I dont think anyone else has photoshopped theirs either

I agree with you Shazza, I saw VirtualRain's build and it's absolutely amazing. I was just commenting on my observation from a cursory glance that most of the listed MDPCs are water-cooled. It's definitely harder to have an air-cooled build look as impressive in my opinion, but that's the challenge isn't it? :up:

Well, making tubes look tidy is another business :D
