it's good they've changed names in the last moment :)
^^^otherwise nobody would know what they are buying lol. would be very confusing indeed.
good to see amd might take intel's lower market segements hence pentium D and core 2 duo core 2 quad
good job amd
See this, Nvidia?
Good thing they changed it cause Im only left with:confused: after reading that:p:
They should have cut the core amount suffixes too (X2, X3, X4).
Phenom II X4 940BE -> Phenom II 940BE, etc.
I love AMD but I'm worried it's going to be too easy to make jokes, like 'Agesa H. Christ!!!'
Indeed. I actually like the names, like they are now.
Sure, as largon pointed out, the # of cores is redundant, as (to my knowledge) no X4, X3, or X2 products overlap with the same model #.
However, I feel that the reason for this is, while we can relatively easily look at the products, and go "Ok, 9xx and 8xx are quads..." etc, the average consumer doesn't have a clue. While yes, they will just go for the higher number, most consumers do have a *slight* grasp of the idea behind the # of cores, and what they need.
I'd rather they have the core numbers also. I haven't payed a lot of attention personally to AMD, but when I'm recommending a processor for a friend who needs a low cost, low power proc I want to know how many cores it has just by looking at the name. I don't want to look up a chart of all the CPUs to see that none of the model numbers overlap regarding the number of cores.
ultra would have sounded really crapy lol, glad they didnt do it.
i still think their naming is too complex, but im glad they didnt make it even worse...
I have just found the following… according to the Revision Guide for AMD Family 10h Processors v3.45 all Athlons (X4, X3, etc) based on Phenom II core got II-suffix! Now they are all Athlons II. LOL!
Anyone hate the name Phenom? Seriously I just cant stand it.
Can someone explain this chart to me? It's for 2008 anyways?
Firestrider,
Interesting found as to revision names:Quote:
use the code name... Bloomfield, Deneb, etc.
DR-A0/B1/B2/etc Deerhound
RB-C0/C1/C2/C3 RidgeBack
BL-C0/C2/C3 Bloodhound
DA-C2 Dachshund
HY-D0 Hydra
Deneb sounds too abstractedly.
I think someone was smoking something when they came up with the initial naming scheme :lol2:
