Hello, a few hours ago I turned my system up with watercooling. Now it's under leak testing, but I was quite disappointed how loud pump is. Pump is simple DDC 1-T 10W 3900rpm, with EK top G3/8.
I disasembled and flushed it during installtion, maybe I did some mistake?
I never heard how pump works before, so I wonder is it normal?
Yowl from the pump is very loud actually :confused:
Is the system done bleeding yet? A little bit of cavitation in the pump cavity can produce a lot of unwanted noise. Do you have the pump sitting on the case or did you use any isolation method to reduce the amount of vibrations transferred to the case? A little insulation goes a long way in reducing the noise.

i have special rubber/gel pad for them, but didn't use it because some ppl worried me about possible overheating.
air mostly went out from loop i guess, system is running a fewhours already. also u may see a little whirlpool in the right res on the pic. there is no much vibration by the touch.
just dont know. i read before that pump ddc is very quiet.
but not in my case, sound is remind some yowl :( similar to bad chipset cooler at 5000rpm
btw, dont i need any greasing or smth? those white ball (ceramic?) on which impeller rotates, it's greasing only by water?
the DDC will be very loud mounted that way. I have mine on two blocks of wood on memory foam with an open area under the base with a small undervolted chipset fan blowing on the base for a bit of airflow. The trick to this pump is not to hard mount it at all if possible, and have it just sit on some memory foam or the like. If you isolate the vibrations from the case, it is a very quiet pump, but if the vibrations transmit to the case, this pump makes a lot of noise.

You need to put something soft between the case and pumps like anti vibration grommets if you insist on bolting them to the case like that. Basically, if it touches the pump, it can't touch the case...otherwise you'll get vibration transfer and it'll sound like hell. Read this post here, it might be of some use to you as well. I know you won't be able to purchase anything from the supplier in the link but maybe you can find something similar where you live.Quote:

Oh my...this is your problem your pumps are gonna need some kind of insualtion to stop vibration you can try some double sided stick pads folded over 3 or 4 times to make it thicker stick it to the side then try and screw it in, you may still get some vibration coming throught the screws, as these are standard ddc's you may be able to stick them to the side with sticky tape.....if not you will need to move the pumps so there positioned flat or make/buy some kind of custom mounting solution, but the lack of foam padding is your problem without doubt, I speak from expereince, if mounted properly they should be pretty much silent.
The pump by itself is very silent, the problem is that it vibrates a lot. I have mine mounted on a piece of aluminum resting on a Be Quiet sound mat (2,2 mm bitumen and 8 mm foam).
wow, i did a little experiment - unscrewed the pump and hold it just in the hand. and noise is gone!
i read alot before about insulation, but never could imagine how much it gives in noise reduction. it was real surprise.
as for materials i may use several things - blue gromets from cooler master hdd box, rubber legs from zalman and special insulation material.

also i have an option to install a fan in the front, so that it could blow to pumps and hdd right above them.
edit: i gonna use blue gromets and those square isolation material.
what would be the better way to use those square: put the pump right to the square, or cut a circle from the middle, or make 2 stripes from it and put the pump to these stripes? or smth else?
regarding the overheating, how safe will it be if i just place pump to square?

there are no space under the pump's basement, but a fan blows a little to the pump.

the bottom center of the pump needs to get some air.
yep, it is the bottom center of the pump that overheats. I cut petra gel into strips and run one strip (two total for each pump, see pic) along each side of pump, gets airflow underneath the pump, and gel stuff is only on sides which does not overheat. A lot of ways to do it, just avoid putting anything under center of pump.
I have same pump, and get two noises, 1) vibration and 2)cavitation at higher pump flow.
I realize some would prefer more flow, but with dtek fusion and pa120.3 I get a little over 1.5 gpm (directly measured via filling gallon jugs). Even after isolating the vibration with gel pad strip offsets, at 1.5gpm and higher I get some cavitation noise, silenced by pinching line hard enough to slow flow. But putting in dtek washer/nozzle and increasing the restriction a little completely silences the cavitation noise...basically once I reduce the pump flow to 1.2 gpm or less, it is silent (once taken care of vibration). A full cover gpu block is enough restriction in gpu loop, and currently gtz is just enough restriction in cpu loop so both of mine are dead silent.
all right, i hope i've found ultimate solution -
drilled out 4 holes in the case and insert blue gromets there, it is for pumps' corners without screws

and another 4 gromets went to pumps' mounting holes
so at the end pump sits on 4 points, and has a gap between basement and case for airflow

although metal bolts have a contact with the case, they do have a contact with pump only thru rubber gromets
result is excellent, pump is really veeeeeeery silent :up:
ps it is very uncomfortable that laing do pumps with only 2 mounting holes but not with 4
Those black rubber things in the picture are called "Lord Mounts" you might be able to get them at McMaster Carr. They are floating vibration isolators. The part at the bottom with the male thread is not connected to the part that has the femal threads in the top of if so it can float and the rubber absorbs the vibes.Quote:
