it's the secure socket layer, it's not your machine it's the server. I had some of those errors yesterday on one of my machines and some differnet errors on my quads.
I have them from time to time as well. Just hit manual update every now and then, sometimes it'll work.
Sweet! OK, was just making sure it wasnt some issue on my end. I was messing with my router, but im not too smart with the whole networking thing & was hoping I didnt mess anything up.
Thanks!!
Just an FYI:

We have shifted much of the work unit download traffic away from SSL encryption as this was overloading portions of the website. This is now causing issues for people attempting to download and upload work units.
To fix this issue, go to the BOINCmgr Advanced view, and under the Advanced menu and click:
"Retry Communications" (for BOINC 5.x)
"Do Network Communications" (for BOINC 6.x)
If that does not work, go to the Projects tab (still in the Advanced view), and click the Reset Project button.
So what will the reset project button do? Will I loose all my work? I have 16 completed wu's & they wont acknowledge.
ya, you'll lose them if you reset. It deletes all the wu's and downloads new ones. I just keep hitting manual update till they go through.
Mine won't update either. It keeps deferring the communication for another hour.

Many users are experiencing issues with signing into the website or having the BOINC agent communicate with the servers. We are working on resolving this problem now. We originally thought the issue was based on overloading the load balancers, however, the problem appears to be elsewhere so we are pursuing that now.
It seems to work again. Here the info from WCG:

We have switched to using our backup load balancer. It appears that there may be an issue with the SSL module on the primary load balancer. We are now operating on the backup load balancer and it is working great so it is likely not a load issue (which is good news). We are working on figuring out what is wrong with the primary.
I got all my wu's uploaded now.
Woohoo...finally
