Asus P6T / Rampage II Extreme: no "CPU VR Current Override" ???

Today we found a problem with our Asus P6T and Asus Rampage II Extreme Mainboards.

hmmm i was almost going to buy my new PC with i7 920... with Asus P6T Deluxe our R2E
and more i read around forums, more i am in doubt to buy this brand...

Is there any link between your topic relating this problem, and the topic about the Asus P6T Deluxe v2 ???

I thin i gonna wait 1 or 2 monthes to buy :)

I read the post at forumdeluxx and still dont understand what exactly is the problem. Does the board limit the current above 1.35v? Does it throttle above 1.35? Does it not supply 1.35?

I have 920 and R2E and i need 1.544v for 100% stability @4.2 with HT on and it way above the other that I have read on the forums. I just want to if it is the board or if I just got a lousy cpu.

if you running with turbo mode (20+1) and you´re over 1.35v (real, not bios setting) then goes the multi down to 20 if you start prime, cinebench etc...

for example:

this is on my Gigabyte UD5, if you try the same on RIIE you can see that the CPU multiplier goes down to 20.

**this is only as example, my CPU doesn´t need 1.42v for 4.2Ghz :D

That is not happening on my P6T deluxe, and i am pretty sure of it.

Pretty much guaranteed that it is happening. You just did not observe it correctly...

They really ought to put a feature to disable this function on their boards.

21x190 is not the problem.

I'm pretty sure mine is not doing it. :D j/k Mine is a 965 Extreme so it won't do that.

There may be many BIOS updates, and there may even be a few Chipset Driver updates.

We've had these for what now? A month and a week. It's gonna take time to for things to work out. That's assuming they do put this feature on which I have no idea about whether they will or won't.

I do know there will be things worked on. These are top tier boards. They will support them. They may even be working ona feature that works better that nobody even knows about. You never can tell what is happening, but we do know from past experience that they will support these boards - especially the Rampage II Extreme boards. That's their flagship. They want these boards to stay on top of things.

For people that correspond with them, don't "demand", ask nicely. You'll get much farther that way. Give them reasons why they should.

Examples: Your board doesn't have ____ function, it sux and I'm not gonna ever buy Asus again. <--- That is an example that will make them not care, becasue if your not buying, they are not interested in supporting you.

Hi Asus, I have this issue, and I was wondering if you could help me. I would like to set ____ up, but don't have a function for that. Could you possibly add a update to the BIOS so that users could set this? It would help your boards set records with the i920's and i940's and would make them easier to OC, so that more people would have a chance to get higher OC's which would raise the chances of golden CPU's getting thse high OC's. We would like to put your boards on top on HWBot and the Orb. <--- Now THAT will get their attention, and it's polite.

IT does not drop my multiplier either. I dont know what's happening with the OP's board but its not Asus's Fault. The Rampage II Extreme has something in the bios called "Extreme OV" which is the VR Override.

I have my Vcore voltage at 1.5 and when i prime on all core's my multi is 21 and not 20.5

Ok here is 200X20 plus turbo. If u ask me to plug in any specific mouse, i won't do it :P
That guy in asus forums mean of something else that i dont get. Nothing to do with vcore, might be the power consumption of cpu or sthing else.

Could be unlucky VID's too. If you happen to get a high VID CPU your gonna reach the threshold sooner.

Extreme OV helps nothing.

i have no cold boot problem.

No cold boot issues at all.

Slight cold boot, and have this problem. Would really like asus to fix this, as I won't bother replacing the board for another brand that has an override. This is the flagship core i7 board so it should have every feature under the sky, and other options for 4.2ghz involve either lowering my ram to 1300 or raising it to 1700.

Just like to confirm I've run into the same issues...throttling with any more than about 1.4V during multithreaded apps.

Extreme OV seems like its the feature we need (according to the description in the BIOS), but does not appear to make any difference for me.:shakes: Maybe they just need to turn it on:confused: Anyhow, I hope it's available soon, as I plan to go cold within a few weeks, and don't need any pesky throttling when I'm pushing it to the limit.

I don't think you'll actually have an issue with it as long as you're benching. Only programs like prime or wcg cause the throttling. Though I guess when you overvolt it far enough, it will start throttling at lower loads cause the current will increase quite a bit. As far as I can tell though, the intel board would be better for the 920 than this, now ain't that ironic... What possessed asus to screw us over like this, when even intel provides the current override...
