DC to DC Converter (to power TECs)

i'm wondering since most of u guys use Maxwell PSU to power the TECs

can we use alternative methods like a DC/DC convertor used in vehicles to boost the voltage for audio as well?

i do understand cars uses 12v batteries .. but occasionally their amps require more voltage to perform efficiently .. therefore they use DC/DC convertors to do the job

could we do the same thing with our PSUs as they did to their car batteries?

same here .. i asked my senior collegue .. he said it's possible .. and in fact ... there's a lot of dc/dc convertor being used ..

example: usb speakers .. utilize 12v and step-up transformer to increase the voltage for high watt
some step-down transformer like charging your phone via usb

I researched the exact same thing when i was designing my ATX-TEC converter. Which is just a DC-DC converter specificaly for TECs.

It will work, the problem once again is cost. The DC-DC converters used for audio are designed for extremely fast transient response, ripple rejection and low ripple output. All of which add considerably to the cost.

If you can obtain one for a reasonable price. go for it.

Many modern power supplies actually derive t he 3.3 and 5v lines from the 12v line using DC-DC coverters

At the amperage you need it'll be hard to find low cost components.

Yeah, it'll work but it's easier just to use a seperate PSU due to the demand TEC's put on the supply.
