What are your thoughts on this ?
Should once out i upgrade ? currently using a E8400 but these babies look nice and im sure are going to put my pc in the "old / Cant play anything" category.

Do you need it? Do you want it? Do you have any use for it? Unless you are doing heavy multithreading tasks like video encoding, 3d rendering/modelling, cad/cam, image editing, etc you probably won't benefit all that much from it over the equivalent 45nm quad core of the current gen. By all means if you have the money to blow and just one go for it. It'll be an amazing chip and I know i'll be picking up the 965 when it arrives for multithreading work!
yes have started video editing actually and coming from a single core to a dual there difference in time is great, but i wonder and hear alot about nothing taking full use of 4 cores, so was just putting it out there.
Then you will surely have good purpose for this! I used to do heavy video encoding, not so much these days but four cores definitely makes a huge difference even when I do compiling. I personally find dual cores really laggy in comparison with the general multitasking I do.

nehalem, this looks like the halo hype all over again..
if you're a gamer, nehalem is not worth it

Exactly, this community is mostly centered around the latest and greatest. True most applications will not make use of the power that is contained, but it's something new to play with and for most of us this is a hobby, and we all love new toys.Quote:

EDIT: how many trannies? I know its 410M for Dual Core and its 820M for Quads.
Judging by the preliminary preview on Anandtech Nehalem looks like a really solid improvement over Core 2 Quad and that’s not hype. I don’t see the point in comparing it with Core 2 Duo and complaining that it’s not significantly better as it’s aimed at a different market segment. If YOU don’t need more than 2 cores that doesn’t mean others don’t and the performance gain from as you say going from 7 to 5 minutes for a multimedia task is a very significant gain.Quote:
