Who owns one? How do you like it? How is fuel economy? Any problems?
Im about to pull the trigger on a Civic Hybrid and just wanted some input from some current owners.

Not a current owner, but I'd buy a regular Civic and wait until Hybrids mature with better battery tech. Personally I'm getting an older one...96-98 or so. $5k can get you 40+mpg.
Batteries arent an issue afaik, they are designed to last 150-200k miles, plus they are under 8 year warranty.
That's better than I had thought.
Previously I know the battery was a cause of concern for lifespan, but that sounds decent actually, kind of surprising. I wouldn't have expected a battery to last that long.
I still don't like hybrid cars tho :P Too small, not enough guts for me, but if you get one I hope it works out for ya.
40mpg from a Hybrid - that's frankly terrible!!!
I know people getting 55mpg out of 2.0 Turbodiesels!
Civic hybrid should have a little over 50mpg. Im not worried about guts in a car anymore, I passed that stage of my life, i just sit in traffic all the time anyway. Hybrid can shut down 3 of 4 cylinders when idling so you save a bundle in city driving.
I just want fuel economy, and good resale value. Plus my govt gives nice rebates to people buying hybrid cars.
I was worried about battery life and stuff too, but the warranty covers all hybrid electrical components including battery for 8 years, the rest of the car is covered for 3 years as comparison. I guess that is to address peoples concerns of the electrical systems and batteries failing.
Is this buying new I assume?
I'm still a bigger diesel fan than the hybrids at the mo. But ive heard that their are diesel hybrids in the pipeline and some even on the market (peugeot have one http://www.peugeot.com/en/innovation...terBy=1&page=1)
I just picked up a Prius. It's ugly but a roomy, functional car. I own a taxi company so a hybrid is definitely worth it. I figure I'll save $35000 in fuel over the life of the car, and that's compared to the Pontiac Vibe it's replacing. But for the average driver who only keeps a car a few years it's not worth it. It takes alot of driving to make up the price difference between a hybrid and a similar non-hybrid model.
How do you figure? The difference between a Civic EX and a Civic Hybrid with similar options is only ~3k. You can make that up in 4 years at with 12-15k miles /year or filling up once /week. The difference in MPG between the two cars is almost 33%. Also for some, its not a monetary issue, its about being green. ;)
Sorry about the threadjack...I do not own one... :(
Is there not a lot of controversy about the hybrid being green, I heard the nickel for the non recyclable battery's is mined in the usa then flew to japan to be processed then flew back . Also the are not the most fuel efficient car on the road, surely a vw polo blue motion diesel is better at 70 mpg.
"being green" is the lamest :banana::banana::banana: I've ever heard. You could get an older civic hatch or other honda that gets damn good gas mileage for far cheaper than one of these hybrids and not look like a (insert derogatory term for "green" people here) while doing it.
Yeah it sucks america gets shafted on the cool diesels :(
You could get any older 4 banger that gets 'damn good gas mileage for far cheaper than one of these hybrids'. That was a silly statement!!! :D
I dont think the new civic hybrid looks bad at all aside from the stock rims. I dont like the looks of the prius, but there are other not quite as fuel efficient hybrids such as Honda Acorrds and Lexus RX/GS/LS that look just the same as their non hybrid siblings so you dont look like a douche trying to help out the environment...
Diesels FTW. I wanna Jetta TDI.
diesel hybrid FTW...dudes. pity they dont make them.
prius 'supposed' to get 4.4L/100km ~60mpg
No more thread crapping plzkthx.
Aye Aye stevil.
