Homemade Torture Rack

Well I have been on vacation this week so I thought that I would take a little time from yard work and home maintenance to start a torture rack build. It is nothing fancy just something to feed the computer hunger, damn addiction.

It is not finished yet but this is what I have so far. I need to add hard drive channels under the top and design a rad attachment for either a dual or triple rad. This is what you call a low budget build. The dimensions are 18w x 12d x 8h. I might end up dropping the height to 6"?

Here are some updates that I did today. Added two cable holes and added brackets for rad mounting. I am still not through, I need to think some more about the direction this needs to go.

It doesn't matter if it is in a case or not, dust will find its way in. Next I will build a two tier setup for dual boards.

Very nice! Are those cutting boards you used as the bases?

I really want to and plan to build a torture rack/benching station as a summer project. These threads give me great ideas!

Thanks, that is 120 wooded acres behind me, not mine but nice. I sit on a little 2.5 acre plot.

Yeah, nice idea on the cutting boards. I saw it at first and thought, "dear God, is that a cutting board?" Turns out it's a better idea than I initially thought. :)

Thanks guys, it is a cheapo first build. I have added supports in the back for a 120.3 rad but the more I do the more I want to re-work it, keep seeing better ways to do things. Heading to Home Depot in a little while for more supplies. :up:

Thanks for all the kind words. I am tearing it apart right now and have started a complete make-over. I want it to be more versatile and it will house a watercooled setup so changes were in order.

I just wish that I had :worship: CyberDruid's :worship: skills because could you image what it would look like if he did one? :idea: :stick: :D

SiGfever, what did you do to make those posts? I really plan on making one, and 4 of those posts plus 2 cutting boards would be much cheaper than an aluminum frame plus acrylic panels.

I used 1/2" aluminum tubing but that is now being replaced with 3/4" square aluminum stock. They are attached with 10-24 allthread rod, washers, lock washers, and nuts. I will post more pictures when I get to the next evolution of this project.

Ah, so you used tubing with a rod going through it. I was thinking you had a tube that was threaded inside, so you put a screw through it to mount everything.

Is that frame pretty sturdy atleast? It looks like you have reinforced the board with a few aluminum "C" strips.

It is very sturdy, the "U Channel" is for attaching a 120.2 rad on the right side and now there is a pair on the back to hold a 120.3 rad.

I have changed the round tubing to 3/4" square aluminum stock so I could mount a piece to support the cards on the MB. I would be able to get enough done for some more pictures but it is raining cats and dogs. :shakes: I do have the brace held up with clamps at the moment.

Alright, thanks for the reply! Now it's time for me to hit up the local Wal-Mart to look for some colorful cutting boards. I think I will also go with the 3/4" aluminum stock, so I have a secure PCI mounting system also.

I picked up two cutting boards from Walmart today, they are thicker, heavier, and larger, 15W x 20L. The other boards I got at Lowes.

Edit: I need to fix the right supports (straighten it up) but you get the idea. It is on hold until I can get time to work on it. The back uprights will be for attaching other items.

What are you using to cut the boards? A jigsaw seems to be too big for the application, so are you using a Dremel? If so, what attachment are you using?
